A few weeks ago saw it announced that a new Flatliners movie is underway, which was thought to be a reboot.
Now itās learned the new Flatliners is actually more of a sequel.
Kiefer Sutherland, who starred in the 1990 Flatliners, returns for the new film and tells the UKās Metro that he essentially plays the same character, just the names are different.
āI play a professor at the medical university,ā Sutherland said. āIt is never stated but it will probably be very clearly understood that Iām the same character I was in the original Flatliners but that I have changed my name and Iāve done some things to move on from the experiments that we were doing in the original film.ā
The original Flatliners followed five medical students who decide to trigger near-death experiences by intentionally stopping their hearts. The movie also starredĀ Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin, Julia Roberts and Oliver Platt; according to the report, Kiefer Sutherland is the only one returning for the sequel.
āI loved making the first film and when I was asked if I would be interested in taking part in this, it didnāt take more than a minute to say yes,ā Sutherland offered.
The new Flatliners has an August 18, 2017 release directed by Niels Arden Oplev also starringĀ James Norton, Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, Ellen Page and Kiersey Clemons.
