James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad Feels Like A Comedy Says Joel Kinnaman

What should come as no surprise if you are a fan of James Gunn’s movies or the Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy flicks, but Joel Kinnaman offers up that The Suicide Squad feels more like a comedy.

While promoting the Apple TV Plus show For All Mankind, Joel Kinnaman spoke about The Suicide Squad.

“He’s an incredible guy,” Kinnaman told Variety about director James Gunn. “He’s written a fantastic script. It’s so funny… I feel like I’m shooting my first comedy. There are a lot of really funny people there. It’s like a learning experience. I’m around a lot of incredibly funny people.”

Set images have also hit the net that apparently shows off how comedic Gunn’s take on The Suicide Squad is as some rather goofy looking costumes were spotted. James Gunn also posted some weird video on Instagram, which only adds to the perceived humor surrounding the film.

The Suicide Squad a comedy?

While at the event, Kinnaman also spoke about the new Joker movie.

“Joaquin [Phoenix] just crushed it. Wow. He is incredible. He’s such an actor,” Kinnaman said. “It’s surprising to see that kind of a performance in something that has a DC wrapper on it, because that’s a real art film. And I have a sister who’s schizophrenic, and I’ve drawn on some of her behavioral things in things that I’ve done earlier, and, yeah, I was really struck by how accurate his [performance was].”

The Suicide Squad gets released on August 6, 2021 starring Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), with Steve Agee, said to be playing King Shark, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher, with John Cena thought to be playing the role originally meant for Dave Bautista with Peacemaker, German comedian-actor Flula Borg is in the flick, Nathan Fillion, Taika Waititi, Peter Capaldi, Pete Davidson, Sean Gunn, Michael Rooker, Jennifer Holland, Joaquin Cosio, Mayling NG, Juan Diego Bottom, Storm Reid, Alice Braga, Tinashe Kajese, and Julio Ruiz.
