Green Lantern: Finn Wittrock Talks Guy Gardner Casting Process

Finn Wittrock has been cast as Green Lantern Guy Gardner and talks about the casting process behind the series coming to the HBO Max streaming service.

Speaking with Rotten Tomatoes (watch the video below), Wittrock reveals he did an old-fashion screen test for the character.

“I did an old-fashion screen test. Usually an audition, you go to a casting office or I’ve done lots of auditions here in front of a screen, but the old school way of doing it was you go to a studio and they would put lights and a camera, like a real film, and you would do a proper scene,” the actor explained. “So that’s why I did. It was kind of daunting and way bigger than I thought it would be. Vicki Thomas, she’s the casting director, who I was always a little… not scared of but… impressive woman… and she sat on this dolly as they pushed it into my face, like on this little stool, and read with me. She has a special place in my heart. Then a week later I found out I got it so it was very cool.”

Finn Wittrock also spoke briefly about the Green Lantern costume offering he hasn’t seen it yet but is reading the comic books.

“No suit, yet. I’m studying the comics so I am very interested to see how quite skin-tight this Green Lantern suit will be,” he said. “There is not a whole lot of wiggle room in those outfits. But, no, I really haven’t seen much. It’s still early. We don’t start filming for a while. I’m going to a friend’s wedding in June and they were like, ‘Could you skip the tuxedo and bring the Green Lantern suit?’ [laughs] I was like, ‘I’ll try, man. Ill try.’”

Green Lantern Guy Gardner DC Comics

Here is a description for Guy Gardner in the Green Lantern HBO Max series:

White Male, 30’s. A hulking mass of masculinity, as rendered in the comics. Guy is a personification of the hyper-patriotism found in the 1980’s that birthed Hulk Hogan and Rambo. However, Guy is still likable. He might act foolish, but he is not a fool. Guy loves his daughter and wife with all of his hard-partying, fast driving, hot tempered heart. But like many alpha males, there is a deep undercurrent of pain driving it all.
