‘The Batman’ Box Office Passes Half A Billion

‘The Batman’ Box Office Passes Half A Billion

The Batman has now officially passed a half-billion dollars at the box office.

As of Wednesday, The Batman has brought in a worldwide gross of $505.8 million, with a current domestic haul of $258.3 million and a foreign gross of $247.5 million.

Warner Bros Pictures Chairman Toby Emmerich said in a statement (via Deadline), “We couldn’t be more thrilled to see people all over the world enjoying The Batman in theaters. Matt Reeves has delivered an extraordinary film that manages to honor the legacy of this global cultural hero while taking moviegoers into an experience that feels fresh and original. We congratulate Matt, Dylan, Walter, Chantal, Robert and Zoë, and the entire cast and crew on this wonderful benchmark.”

The flick opens in China this week as well, so expect another boost, though China is going through another ridiculous lockdown which could hurt things.

Will The Batman box office hit a billion dollars?

The big question is if The Batman will make it to a billion dollars at the box office, which could be possible as a good comparison movie might be The Joker, which finished with $1.074 billion.

Checking The Joker‘s domestic numbers, it hit $258 million on day #21 of its release (finished with $335.45 million domestically), while The Batman has done it on day #13. That’s a good sign.

The Joker did make 70% of its billion-dollar box office from foreign markets, a total of $738.8 million, so that is where The Batman needs to get it done.

A bonus for The Batman is that it gets released in China while The Joker did not, so where did Joker‘s big foreign box offices come from? United Kingdom, Japan, Mexico, France Germany, South Korea, Russia, Italy, and Brazil; however, there will be no release for The Batman in Russia, but again, China can make up for that.

Comparing the openings for those foreign markets reveals more in favor of the Joker (particularly with South Korea which sees a huge difference as Joker opened to nearly $10 million to The Batman‘s $2 million), so it looks like a close call if The Batman will make a billion dollars.

The film is directed by Matt Reeves and stars Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell.
