We get some backstory on Batman, the dead Robin Jason Todd, and Joker in the DCEU.
Empire caught up with Suicide Squad director David Ayer who offers up the reason why Joker has certain tattoos as well as why he wears a teeth grill, which has to do with what went down with Robin.
âThis is sort of my personal thing and maybe less about a larger connection,â Ayer said. âBut Joker killed Robin and Batman basically smashes his teeth out and locks him up in Arkham Asylum. Itâs in the asylum where Joker would have done the âdamagedâ tattoo as a message to Batman saying, âYouâve damaged me. I was so beautiful before and now youâve destroyed my face.â Thatâs where the grill comes from.â
Suicide Squad also revealed that Harley Quinn had a hand in Robinâs death.
Jason Todd is currently rumored to be returning as Red Hood in the solo Ben Affleck Batman movie, with a separate rumor stating it may take place within Arkham Asylum.
