Indiana Jones 5 Getting Early Premiere At Cannes Film Festival

Disney and Lucasfilm apparently have a lot of faith in James Mangold, Kathleen Kennedy and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny as the flick will premiere early at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.

15 years ago actually saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull debut at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008 and we all know how that turned out, but last year did see Paramount screen Tom Gun: Maverick at the Cannes Film Festival which went on to become a huge blockbuster and made almost $1.5 billion at the box office.

Variety reports Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is headed to the Cannes Film Festival likely on day 2 (May 17) or day 3 (May 18) so look for the official schedule to come out soon.

Cannes Film Festival runs May 16-27 held in Cannes, France with its 76th Season about to get underway.

What is Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny about?

The flick doesn’t come without controversy as it’s from Lucasfilm and Kathleen Kennedy who hasn’t done all that good of a job with Disney Star Wars and Willow (and it’s also said Lucasfilm canceled a planned spinoff series), as fans and rumors have been speculating Harrison Ford gets replaced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge; however, director James Mangold has shot down those notions numerous times. The title also seems to suggest time travel is involved.

The official synopsis describes the film as: Harrison Ford returns as the legendary hero archaeologist in the highly anticipated fifth installment of the iconic “Indiana Jones” franchise, which is directed by James Mangold (“Ford v Ferrari,” “Logan”).

Starring along with Ford are Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”), Antonio Banderas (“Pain and Glory”), John Rhys-Davies (“Raiders of the Lost Ark”), Shaunette Renee Wilson (“Black Panther”), Thomas Kretschmann (“Das Boot”), Toby Jones (“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”), Boyd Holbrook (“Logan”), Oliver Richters (“Black Widow”), Ethann Isidore (“Mortel”) and Mads Mikkelsen (“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore”).

Directed by James Mangold, the film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel, with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas serving as executive producers.

John Williams, who has scored each Indy adventure since the original “Raiders of the Lost Ark” in 1981, is once again composing the score.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny gets officially released on June 30, 2023.
