A while back it was rumored that Warner Bros. was considering going in a different direction with their Superman franchise by casting Michael B. Jordan in the role, who obviously would be considered a lot different than the previous actors known for playing Clark Kent. The hypeĀ even got bigger when it was realized Jordan signed a huge new deal with WB leading to even more Man of Steel speculation.Ā
Last weekĀ saw Oprah Winfrey catch up with Michael B. Jordan and asked the 32-year-old actor if he would be interested in playing Superman.Ā Jordan, who happens to be a big comic book fan, replied he really doesnāt want to play the classic version of Superman, but wouldnāt mind playing the alternate Earth version.
āItās tough. I hate being a businessman and understanding both sides of the situation. There is a huge upside to it, but being under that microscope, being picked apart and compared to so many different versions of Superman⦠I would rather do something original. Iāll be Calvin Ellis,ā Jordan said.
In the comics,Ā Calvin Ellis, akaĀ Kalel, is the Superman of Earth-23, who was raised by the poor Ellis family, instead of the Kentās, and would also go on to do great deeds, including even becoming President of the United States.
Regarding WB going in a different direction with Superman, it has also been said a possible Supergirl movie may be a way of giving the character a soft reboot. Reportedly, Henry Cavill may or may not be on his way out.
