We finally get some insights into the inner workings of the DCU as James Gunn reveals that Peacemaker Season 1 is not canon to his new universe.
Back in January of 2023, James Gunn and Peter Safran were announced as the co-heads of the DCU developing a slate of five movies and five TV shows, including the new Superman movie starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan.
The DCU is known to be separate from the previous DCEU, but Gunn has said certain actors and characters are returning including John Cena as Peacemaker, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and Xolo Maridueña from Blue Beetle. Of course, with that also means the Peacemaker cast is returning and it’s known Gunn’s brother, Sean Gunn, is playing something like three characters in the DCU.
As fans know, the end of Peacemaker Season 1 featured that DCEU Justice League scene, so fans have been wondering how everything is going to fit with what is perceived as a reboot.
“Season one isn’t canon”
Gunn fielded questions on Threads where he confirmed that, “Yes, Peacemaker takes place after Superman.”
A fan questioned, “Including season one?”
Gunn replied, “Season one isn’t canon but no.”
It still remains to be seen how everything will be worked out and how the DCU reboot will be addressed. I suppose the easiest way would be to just say it’s part of the DC Multiverse.
Regarding Peacemaker Season 2, Gunn’s wife, Jennifer Holland, recently said it will start to film this Summer, which Gunn confirmed.
