X-Men: Ryan Coogler Confirms Thunderbolts Director Jake Schreier

X-Men: Ryan Coogler Confirms Thunderbolts Director Jake Schreier

It seems it’s official, as Ryan Coogler has let the cat out of the bag that Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier is indeed directing the X-Men for Marvel.

The trades previously reported on it, but Marvel or Kevin Feige have yet to officially confirm.

While promoting the release of Ironheart, it’s mentioned to Coogler that he is a fan-favorite pick to helm the X-Men. However, Coogler says he isn’t doing it as “Jake is directing that.”

Schreier directing X-Men shows that Feige must have a lot of faith in him. Thunderbolts is confirmed to be another massive bomb at the box office, as it’s the second-worst performing movie in the MCU, only better than The Marvels.

Kevin Feige’s X-Men plans

Feige has already confirmed Avengers: Secret Wars leads the MCU into “a new age of mutants and of the X-Men.” It’s also said that Feige has a ten-year plan.

No release date has been announced, but Marvel has release dates in 2028 for four untitled films, one or more of which is assumed to be for X-Men:

  • February 18, 2028
  • May 5, 2028
  • November, 10, 2028
  • December 15, 2028

No actors have been cast, but there are loads of rumors. It’s also rumored Feige is butting heads with Disney CEO Bob Iger over the direction, as Feige wants it to be about social commentary, but Iger wants it to be a big action-packed film similar to Deadpool & Wolverine, Spider-Man, and The Avengers movies.

The Fox Marvel cast is also confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday, which includes Patrick Stewart back as Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler who dropped that huge spoiler, Channing Tatum is back from Deadpool & Wolverine as Gambit, and rumors also offer Famke Janssen is back as Phoenix Jean Grey.
