Margot Robbie Still Attached to Pirates of the Caribbean 6 Says Jerry Bruckheimer

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has offered a major update on the long-delayed Pirates of the Caribbean 6, confirming that the project is still alive — and that Margot Robbie remains involved.

Bruckheimer also offered an update on National Treasure 3, confirming they are getting closer to development with Nicolas Cage.

Script Progress and Challenges

Speaking at The Wrap’s TheGrill 2025 conference, Bruckheimer revealed that the script for Pirates 6 is in active development, but stressed that the film won’t move forward until it’s right.

“We’re working on a script. If we don’t have it on the page, it’s not gonna get on the screen,” he said.

Bruckheimer noted that the process has been more complicated than with his other franchises.

“The hardest one has been ‘Pirates’ so far. That world is so cool and specific. You just gotta find the right way in,” he said.

It’s been eight years since the last film, Dead Men Tell No Tales, was released in 2017.

What Happened With the Scripts?

At one point, two different versions of Pirates 6 were in development.

Bruckheimer confirmed that one was dropped while the other moved forward. He also revealed that longtime Pirates writer Ted Elliott has contributed to the latest draft, and another writer has been brought in to refine the story.

“We had two scripts at one point, and then one kind of dropped out and we kind of went with the other one,” Bruckheimer said. “He worked on it, and we’ve brought someone else in to fill in the blanks.”

Margot Robbie Still On Board

In a surprising twist, Bruckheimer said Margot Robbie is still attached to the project, despite reports years ago that her spinoff had been scrapped.

“She’s still involved,” Bruckheimer confirmed.

Robbie was originally linked to a female-led reboot of the franchise, but until now it was believed that version had been abandoned. It could very well be possible they combined the two scripts to keep Robbie on board.

Johnny Depp Open to Pirates of the Caribbean Return

Depp’s Status Still Unclear

While Bruckheimer recently told Entertainment Weekly he’s spoken to Johnny Depp and that the actor might return if the script is right, there was no update on Depp’s involvement during this latest appearance.

“If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it. It’s all about what’s on the page, as we all know,” Bruckheimer said in August.
