James Gunn Working On His Next DCU Project

It’s learned that James Gunn is currently working on his next DCU project following Creature Commandos, Superman, and Peacemaker Season 2. Gunn who is normally quite active on social media has gone silent as of late, which led to fans questioning what he has been up to.

James Gunn’s latest update

In responding to fan questions, Gunn let it be known he happens to be “spending a fair amount of time pre-writing my next DC Studios project.”

A fan questioned, “James Guinn, how have you been balancing post-production on Superman and Peacemaker with pre-production and generally working with the respective teams on other DC Studios projects like Supergirl, Lanterns, The Batman 2 or Sgt. Rock?”

Gunn replied:

The bulk of my time is dealing with post-production on Superman and Peacemaker, but I’m also spending a fair amount of time pre-writing my next DC Studios project and watching dailies and offering ideas on the other projects. It’s much less overwhelming than when I was directing.

Haven’t heard from Gunn recently

Another fan posted, “Hope you’re having a good new year so far James! We haven’t heard from you too much recently!”

Gunn replied with word that while he evacuated due to the Los Angeles wild fires, his house is okay:

Busy. Plus Christmas led into being evacuated from our place in LA because of the fires (our place is fine) and dealing with a lot of friends who lost their places or got evacuated and then us going back home to ATL. So just been occupied.

No DC Studios logo on Harley Quinn?

Another fan noticed that with the new season of the Harley Quinn animated series now out that it lacks the DC Studios logo, Gunn replied:

All DC television & film projects are now under DC Studios. Because Harley Quinn was developed long before us we didn’t think it was fair to put the DC Studio fanfare on there. On Penguin, which we had a small hand in developing, we have a different DC Studios anim at the end. We’re currently working on the DC Studios Elseworlds opening.

What’s next for the DCU?

Up next for the DCU is Superman getting released on July 11; Peacemaker Season 2 is expected sometime after that; Supergirl is now filming for its June 26, 2026 release, and Lanterns is expected to start filming soon. Clayface is also in development and is set for a September 11, 2026 release date.
