Marvel Ditches Disney+ ‘Werewolf By Night’ Sequel for a Comic Book Instead

It’s learned that Marvel has more plans for Werewolf By Night by Michael Giacchino, but it won’t be another Disney+ MCU special — it will be a comic book instead.

Werewolf By Night debuted nearly three years ago on Disney+ and was generally well-received, even though it’s bait-and-switch, much like most of the MCU has been post-Endgame.

Fans hoping for more live-action will have to keep waiting until the next full moon and beyond, but Marvel just announced Michael Giacchino is writing a new Werewolf By Night comic book to wet your whistle.

While it’s not a new live-action special, on the bright side, a Marvel Comics exec recently confirmed that all the comics are good for nowadays is setting up things for the MCU to “[generate] new ideas and new stories that can serve as creative fodder for eventual film and animation development.”

So it could very well be possible that Michael Giacchino is writing the new comic with the hopes it will lead into a new Werewolf By Night live-action series or special. The comic book is also claimed to focus on Jack Russell and not Elsa Bloodstone like the Disney+ special. Details below. Werewolf By Night: Blood Moon Rise gets released July 31st.

Giacchino also confirmed the new comic is not connected to the Disney+ MCU special.

“It could be a lost story from the original run, in a way,” Giacchino told EW. “There’s a fun twist to it that I think is going to be really interesting for people who are into Jack Russell and that lore.”

The Academy Award-winning composer made his directorial debut in the acclaimed Marvel Cinematic Universe special. Now, he teams up with artist David Messina (ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN) to deliver another tale of terror starring Jack Russell—this time set in the Marvel Comics universe!

WEREWOLF BY NIGHT: BLOOD MOON RISE spotlights what makes Werewolf By Night such a captivating Marvel icon, with over fifty years of comics history – and a hundred times as many bodies in his wake! In addition to Giacchino’s story that pits the tortured hero against Dracula, the one-shot will also have a backup story by Jason Loo, writer of the current WEREWOLF BY NIGHT: RED BAND (2024) comic series, celebrating the character’s history and future along with various bonus material.
