Zack Snyder has announced his next movie will be The Last Photograph, said to be a passion project that he is finally moving forward on after pursuing for years. The drama in is pre-production and will star Stuart Martin and Fra Fee, both of whom Snyder worked with on Rebel Moon.
Production begins this month and runs through November, with filming locations in Iceland, Colombia, and Los Angeles. The script is written by Kurt Johnstad (Snyder’s 300 and Rebel Moon writer), based on a story from Snyder. Snyder, Deborah Snyder, and Wesley Coller are producing under Stone Quarry alongside Gianni Nunnari of Hollywood Gang Productions.
Cast and Production Team
- Stuart Martin – previously appeared in Snyder’s Rebel Moon and Army of Thieves. He also stars in the Channel 4 series In Flight.
- Fra Fee – known for Hawkeye on Disney+ and the Apple TV+ series Prime Target.
The score is being handled by Hans Zimmer with Steven Doar and Omer Benyamin. Executive producers include Mediaset España’s Telecinco Cinema, William Doyle, and Jaguar Bite.
Story Details
The film follows a former DEA operative who travels back into the mountains of South America to find his missing niece and nephew after the murder of their diplomat parents. He teams up with a washed-up war photographer, the only person who saw the killers. Their search forces both men to confront the ghosts of their past as they venture deeper into unknown territory, blurring the line between reality and the surreal.
Snyder on His Approach
Snyder called the project “a meditation of life and death” that reflects his own experiences. He said he was drawn to making a smaller, more intimate film compared to his recent large-scale productions.
“The idea of taking camera in hand and simply making a movie in an intimate way is very appealing to me,” Snyder told Deadline. “The Last Photograph is a meditation of life and death, embodying some of the trials that I have experienced in my own life and the exploration of those ideas through image making.”
