Feige Blames Fans for The Marvels Flop, Then Praises Ms. Marvel Casting

Make is make sense.

Instead of showing up at Comic-Con to promote the release of Fantastic Four as they did last year for Deadpool & Wolverine, Kevin Feige has opted for a press invite-only interview at Marvel Studios.

The topic of the big-time failure of The Marvels came up, as the film lost Disney hundreds of millions of dollars and failed to come close to the billion-dollar success of Captain Marvel, which, as we’ve said, was actually due to being sandwiched between Infinity War and Endgame.

In the various articles about the interview from the trades – the spin is in – as while Ms. Marvel, played by Iman Vellani, is blamed for the failure of The Marvels, at the same time, they report that Kevin Feige said everyone wanted the character in the MCU (who???), but then it’s said no one watching Ms. Marvel actually hurt The Marvels.

So in the end, it is the fans to blame, as they didn’t watch Ms. Marvel on Disney+.

What did Kevin Feige say about Ms. Marvel?

Via Deadline, the site reports, “The takeaway was that many fans and general moviegoers didn’t buy tickets for The Marvels because they weren’t caught up on Ms. Marvel on Disney+.

Via THR, Feige says: “And I think The Marvels hit it hardest where people are like, ‘OK, I recognize [Brie Larson] from a billion-dollar movie [Captain Marvel]. But who are those other two [Iman Vellani and Teyonah Parris]? I guess they were in some TV show. I’ll skip it.’”

Feige also says, via THR: “It was a big company push, and it doesn’t take too much to push us to go, ‘People have been asking for Ms. Marvel for years, and now we can do it? Do it! Oscar Isaac wants to be Moon Knight? Do it!’ So there was a mandate that we were put in the middle of, but we also thought it’d be fun to bring these to life.”

Feige adds via Variety: He singled out “Ms. Marvel” and “The Marvels” star Iman Vellani as “one of the greatest bits of casting we’ve ever done,” adding, “I can’t wait to see her somewhere.”

What about New Avengers?

Regarding that “somewhere,” one of the outlets asked about Young Avengers.

“Potentially,” Feige replied. “In that case, it comes down to where’s the best story and where is the best strange alchemy. Who would be fun to see them with? Each other, because that’s what the Young Avengers are, but also mixing it up more.”

As I first pointed out, by the time the Young Avengers comes around (if ever), the actors will be nearing 30-years old. Literally, the next day, the “scoopers” said “Young Avengers” has been changed to “Champions.”

Who is the audience for Ms. Marvel?

It’s also known women didn’t show up for The Marvels, actually a majority of the audience was made up of MCU fanboys. We can also add that approximately 2 billion Muslims in the world haven’t bothered to tune in. Who exactly is the audience for Ms. Marvel? None of the outlets apparently bothered to ask Feige, who also had the Disney+ viewership numbers and knew at the time Ms. Marvel was the least-watched MCU on the streamer.
