Disneyâs Snow White gets an updated origin story for the upcoming movie starring Rachel Zegler as the titular character and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.
In the original story, Snow White is called the name because her skin is as white as snow. However, the Disney movie drops the âskin as white as snowâ origin and explains it that the baby princess survived a snow storm, so her parents give her the name.

Via Variety:
As for that line about âskin as white as snow,â Zegler reveals that the new film has its own origin story for her name. âIt fell back to another version of âSnow Whiteâ that was told in history, where she survived a snowstorm that occurred when she was a baby,â she says. âAnd so the king and queen decided to name her Snow White to remind her of her resilience. One of the core points in our film for any young woman or young person is remembering how strong you actually are.â

Rachel Zegler also came under fire for her comments regarding the original animated classic. She called the movie âweirdâ and said Prince Charming is a stalker. However, now she changes her tune and says romance is still a part of the film.
âIn all honesty, it made me sad that it was taken in such a way, because I believe that women can do anything. But I also believe that they can do everything,â Zegler says. What sheâd meant to convey was that Snow White wants romance but has other goals too.
âI would never want to box someone in and say, âIf you want love, then you canât work.â Or âIf you want to work, then you canât have a family.â Itâs not true. Itâs never been true. It can be very upsetting when things get taken out of context or jokes donât land,â Zegler says. âThe love story is very integral. A lot of people wrote that we werenât doing [that storyline] anymore â we were always doing that; it just wasnât what we were talking about on that day.â

Disney has pushed the Snow White release date back a year, it now comes out on March 21, 2025. The first trailer released in August has 1.2 million dislikes from fans on YouTube.
âThis is actually hilarious. The first Snow White saved Disney. The second ruined it,â says the top comment with over 31k likes from fans.
