What should come as no surprise, The Acolyte is officially dead and a Season 2 is not happening.
The news follows the show’s disastrous ratings which includes the season finale for The Acolyte is the lowest-rated and least-watched season finale for a Star Wars series on Disney+.
The Acolyte also cost north of $200 million and has received massive backlash from fans who are sick of Disney’s poor treatment of the Star Wars franchise.
The Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score is a Star Wars low at only 18%.
The Acolyte will not return for Season 2
The news of The Acolyte not moving forward with Season 2 comes from Variety in an article also aptly tiled, “‘The Acolyte’ Is Dead: ‘Star Wars’ Series Won’t Return for Season 2.”
“The Acolyte will not return for Season 2,” states the site. “Lucasfilm has elected not to continue with the Star Wars Disney+ series following its first season.”
Variety also confirms the viewership plummeted: “…less-than-robust viewership that appeared to drop off after the series premiere in June.”
The Acolyte canceled
Deadline first reported the news and said The Acolyte has been cancelled.
“‘The Acolyte’ Canceled: No Season 2 For Disney+’s ‘Star Wars’ Series,” states the title of the article.
“The story of The Acolyte will not continue, with Lucasfilm opting not to proceed with a second season of the Star Wars offshoot starring Amandla Stenberg, sources tell Deadline,” states the site.
Likewise, Deadline also reports how Star Wars fans stopped watching the series.
“But The Acolyte could not sustain the momentum, dropping out of the Top 10 in Week 3 and staying off before returning at No. 10 after the release of the finale (335M minutes, believed to be the lowest for a Star Wars series finale),” reports the site.
The Acolyte not continuing
The Acolyte was from Leslye Headland who left things open for additional seasons with the cliffhanger season finale. However, Headland previously admitted she didn’t know if there would be a Season 2 and said she hasn’t worked on a second season.
The show star, Amandla Stenberg, also released a controversial rage-twerking rap video on social media firing back at Star Wars dissenters (see below).
The cast also includes Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Jodie Turner-Smith, Dafne Keen, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman and Carrie-Anne Moss.
Up next from Disney and Lucasfilm includes the Jon Watts Star Wars: Skeleton Crew series coming to Disney+ in December. Jon Favreau is also directing and developing The Mandalorian and Grogu movie for a May 2026 release.
