It sounds like there will be no neck-snappage in James Gunn’s Superman movie.
According to scooper Daniel RPK, the flick will not be like the DCEU and will be the opposite of what Zack Snyder did with Man of Steel eleven years ago.
Snyder’s movie has come under criticism for the violent scenes as well as Superman killing Zod (I really hated the Pa Kent death scene, myself). Zack then went with Batman vs. Superman, which was less liked than Man of Steel. Eventually, Snyder got to finish his DCEU with his four-hour Justice League cut.
Via CBM, the scooper says he has heard Gunn’s Superman movie “fantastic” and calls it “a complete shift to hardcore sci-fi and fantasy, the exact opposite of Man of Steel.”
Daniel RPK also says it’s different than Snyder’s DCEU in that the heroes have been around a long time in Gunn’s Verse (which explains the rumors surrounding Josh Brolin).
“It’s set in a world very different from ours and far removed from the DCEU. Heroes have been around for ages, and we’ll see how it affected this world’s history and has shaped the DCU,” adds the scooper.
Daniel RPK also says it will be less similar to the MCU and more in line with what Star Wars has done recently with different stories set during different timelines.
“The DCU will feature various projects set across different timelines, not just present day. So more in line with the approach of Star Wars than Marvel,” says the scooper.
It’s our understanding that Zack Snyder can come back to DC if he wants to, and Zack even said that if he does it would be on something like an adaptation of Frank Miller’s Batman The Dark Knight Returns, something not attached to a connected universe, which actually was his original plan for his own Superman movie.
We’ve also been told some of Snyder’s crew is working on Gunn’s Superman and that Gunn is friends with Zack.
