Haven’t played the game myself, only hearing from second-hand accounts, but apparently MJ in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is OP as bleep.
And the director behind the game doesn’t give a sh-t.
IGN caught up with Insomniac senior creative director Bryan Intihar to explain the MJ stealth missions. Apparently, in the first game, players didn’t like really playing as MJ.
Intihar says they actually considered cutting MJ in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and giving the players what they want (where they probably would be able to play more as Spider-Man), but instead what they did is give MJ two new initials: OP.
“We had two choices. We could say, ‘All right, we’ll make it easy and just not do it.’ And everybody would go, ‘Great. No MJ missions,’” explained Inithar. “Or we could say, ‘Hey, we’ve talked about showing the world from all different angles. We’re going to make her moments better. We’re going to take on the challenge. We’re going to make people like playing as her.’”
Inithar added, “We pick and choose our spots. We knew we had to make her more of a proactive, capable person. And if she’s a little OP, I don’t give a shit. She’s fine. I don’t care.”
MJ sits on The High Table?
Slight spoiler, but from what I am told, it’s MJ who is actually responsible for beating the game. Also, from what I hear, it seems both MJ and Miles Morales are more OP than Spider-Man. IGN also says MJ’s gun is more powerful than both Spidey and Miles.
IGN adds Insomniac believed in the importance of showing MJ as a “capable hero,” even if she didn’t have any powers.
So how was she trained?
The article says that, apparently, MJ belongs to the Ruska Roma, stays at the Continental Hotel, and could actually have a seat on The High Table, which explains why she is so OP as bleep and can kick all kinds of butt. Who knew?

One of the writers for Insomniac Games decided to use her own image for Mary-Jane Watson (MJ) on Spider-Man 2 instead of the motion-capture artist and original facial model of MJ.
