Star Wars: The Acolyte Gets No Season 2 But A Youth Novel Minus Amandla Stenberg

Those few fans of The Acolyte waiting for a Season 2 will have to keep waiting but in the meantime, maybe the new youth novel announced at Star Wars Celebration will help them cope with the series cancellation.

Revealed at Star Wars Celebration Japan, Star Wars: The Acolyte: The Crystal Crown is a prequel youth adult novel by Tessa Gratton focusing on Jecki (Dafne Keen) and Yord (Charlie Barnett), with Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) also appearing:

“Just when we thought we’d seen the last of Jecki Lon and Yord Fandar, Tessa Gratton brings us a new young-adult novel featuring three of our favorite Acolyte characters. The brand-new tale, set before the events of the series and also including Master Sol, is available July 29, 2025.”

As it is a prequel that means it won’t featured Amandla Stenberg’s characters. Sorry, stans.

The listing on Amazon also compares it to Hunger Games meets Star Wars:

An exciting adventure starring fan-favorite Jedi Padawans Jecki and Yord from the Disney+ live-action series, Star Wars: The Acolyte.

While their Jedi Masters clean up a political mess left behind by one of their own, Jedi Padawan Jecki and her least favorite fellow Padawan Yord are drawn into a planet-wide coming-of-age ritual as featured guests. But when things unexpectedly turn deadly, Jecki and Yord will have to use all of their abilities and work together to keep each other—and their new friends—safe.

This young adult novel is Star Wars meets The Hunger Games and offers fans of The Acolyte a chance to spend more time with two of their favorite characters from the show.

What happened with The Acolyte?

As confirmed by a Disney exec, The Acolyte was canceled because no one watched the series. The failure of the show is also thought to have led to Star Wars fans exiting Disney+ and not tuning in for Skeleton Crew, which also bombed on the streamer.

“It wasn’t where we needed it to be given the cost structure of that title, quite frankly, to go and make a season two. So that’s the reason why we didn’t do that,” said Alan Bergman, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, about The Acolyte Season 2.

Amandla Stenberg also caused a lot of problems as she released a weird rage-twerking video as the show was streaming, and blamed fans for her failure. It’s known that The Acolyte was watched by something like 75% fewer fans than watched The Mandalorian.
