X-Men: Giancarlo Esposito Wants Denzel Washington As Magneto

X-Men: Giancarlo Esposito Wants Denzel Washington As Magneto

Summary

  • Giancarlo Esposito wants to play Professor X in the MCU without the wheelchair
  • Charles Xavier has lost and regained the ability to walk multiple times in the comics
  • Esposito also recommends Denzel Washington as Magneto

Giancarlo Esposito again says he wants Denzel Washington as Magneto in the MCU and wants to play Professor X without the wheelchair the character is known for in the comics and in the movies.

Charles Xavier first lost use of his legs in the comics while encountering the alien, Lucifer, who dropped a massive stone block on him, which crushed his legs. Charles has regained the ability to walk several times but usually always finds himself back in the wheelchair.

Since Xavier is known for his telepathic powers and being one of the most powerful mutants in the world, he’s often underestimated, but make no mistake, he doesn’t need the ability to walk to lead the X-Men or make changes for the benefit of both mutants and nonmutant-kind.

“Great to play Professor X”

So with Kevin Feige bringing the X-Men to the MCU, which looks to start with Deadpool & Wolverine, Giancarlo Esposito has come out more than once and said he wants to play Professor X. The latest from the 65-year-old actor also sees him recommend Denzel Washington as Magneto.

“I’ve given it a cursory glance in my brain, and immediately I go, ‘Hmm,’” he filled in the Fade To Black podcast when asked about Professor X. “[It would] be great to play Professor X in some other incarnation that just the wheelchair. Right? Because the physical idea of being in a wheelchair every single day does not appeal to me. I just don’t feel that old and I don’t like to sit that much.”

Wants Denzel Washington as Magneto

The actor continued, “But certainly, we could figure something out maybe. Professor X wasn’t always in the wheelchair but that is part of his character development. So, I think about it a little bit but I don’t give it all of my thought because it would have to come to me.”

Regarding Denzel Washinton as Magneto, Giancarlo Esposito added, “I think it would be great. I think it would be great.”

With Avengers: Secret Wars following Deadpool & Wolverine, maybe Giancarlo Esposito and Denzel Washington could appear as Variants?

It’s also thought Patrick Stewart and possibly Ian McKellen will be returning in Deadpool & Wolverine which gets released July 26.
