HBO Max has released the new House of the Dragon Season 3 trailer, and the Dance of the Dragons is no longer waiting in the shadows.
Season 3 premieres June 21 on HBO Max, with the new footage teasing full-scale war, more dragons, and Rhaenyra Targaryen making her claim clearer than ever.
“There will be no doubt who the gods have chosen to rule,” Rhaenyra says in the trailer. Watch below.
House Of The Dragon Season 3 Trailer Teases War For The Iron Throne
The House of the Dragon Season 3 trailer opens with wings flapping and a dragon screeching before Daemon Targaryen tells Rhaenyra, “You now have the power no man has ever wielded.”
Daemon then lays out the promise of conquest.
“You will have an empire unassailable, Rhaenyra,” he says. “And our children will rule it forever and a day.”
The trailer makes it clear the civil war between the Blacks and the Greens is about to get bloodier. Corlys Velaryon tells Rhaenyra, “All that remains is for you to decide what you want from this war.”
That line appears to frame the season around Rhaenyra’s next move now that the fight for the Iron Throne has moved beyond politics and into open dragon war.
Alicent Warns The Throne Changes People
The trailer also shows Alicent Hightower warning about what power does to those who take it.
“You will do things that your heart would have recoiled from before you came to the throne,” Alicent says.
The line fits where Season 2 left off, with Rhaenyra and Alicent no longer able to stop the war they helped set in motion. The friendship that once anchored the series has collapsed into a fight between families, heirs, armies, and dragons.
The Greens Declare A Holy Purpose
The Hightowers also appear ready to frame the war as something bigger than succession.
“The Targaryens are a savage race,” Ormund Hightower says in the trailer. “We act with holy purpose to restore a rightful king.”
That points to the Greens pushing harder against Rhaenyra’s claim while trying to rally support around Aegon’s side of the war.
The trailer also includes a major threat line: “I’m going to kill my brother or die in the attempt.”
Criston Cole Says Doom And Ruin Surround Them
Criston Cole gets one of the darker lines in the trailer as the war escalates.
“Look to the sky,” he says. “Doom and ruin surround us.”
He then adds, “We will all become beasts before our end.”
That sums up the tone of Season 3. The show is moving deeper into the Dance of the Dragons, where family loyalty, revenge, and ambition turn Westeros into a battlefield.
The footage also shows chanting crowds, dragon action, screams, and Alicent warning, “It is no longer safe here.”

The series stars Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen, Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon, and Fabien Frankel as Criston Cole.
Season 3 follows the fallout of Season 2 as the Targaryen civil war expands and both sides push closer to total destruction.
