A new X-Men casting rumor says Sydney Sweeney is being eyed for Emma Frost in the MCU.
The latest claim comes from MyTimeToShineHello on X, so nothing is official from Marvel Studios, but it adds to the growing pile of names now being tied to the reboot.
Sydney Sweeney rumor adds another major X-Men name
If the rumor is legit, Sydney Sweeney as Emma Frost would be a huge role.
The character is one of the biggest mutant characters Marvel has left to properly introduce in the MCU, and she brings a lot more than just powers.
Emma Frost works when the movie leans into ego, class politics, manipulation, and team conflict, which could fit with what Jake Schreier recently suggested Marvel wants from X-Men.
Sweeney’s name also makes sense from a headline standpoint because she is one of the biggest young actresses in Hollywood right now.
Previous rumors linked Odessa A’zion and Peter Claffey
This follows the recent report claiming Odessa A’zion is being eyed for Rogue and Peter Claffey is being eyed for Beast.
Those reports have not been confirmed by Marvel either, but taken together, they suggest the studio could be circling key members of the roster as development moves forward.
Rogue is one of the most popular X-Men characters, so that rumor got plenty of attention right away. Beast is also one of the core names fans expect to see in any serious X-Men lineup, so Peter Claffey getting mentioned raised eyebrows as well.
New writers are working on the script now
The most recent official update about the MCU’s X-Men is that director Jake Schreier said new writers Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo are currently working on a draft for Marvel’s X-Men, which means the script is now in new hands.
That appears to move things on from the previously reported Michael Lesslie version. Deadline and Collider both reported the update following Schreier’s interview.
