Zack Snyder could be heading back to Cannes.
A new report claims Snyder’s upcoming movie The Last Photograph is rumored to premiere at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, which would mark a big return for the director if it happens.
The timing is interesting because Cannes is officially unveiling its 2026 lineup on Wednesday.
Rumor surfaces ahead of official Cannes announcement
The report comes from World of Reel, citing WASK’s Thomas Gastaldi, who says The Last Photograph could be part of this year’s festival.
If that ends up being true, it would be Snyder’s second Cannes appearance after Dawn of the Dead screened out of competition in 2004.
As of now, though, this is still rumor territory until the official selection is announced.

What makes this stand out is that The Last Photograph sounds nothing like the type of movie most fans associate with Snyder. Instead of another large-scale comic book or sci-fi spectacle, this one has been described as a smaller and more intimate project. When the film was announced last year, Snyder said it was a personal story and called it a meditation on life and death.
The movie follows an ex-DEA operative who heads into the South American mountains to rescue his kidnapped niece and nephew. He teams with a washed-up war photographer, and the mission reportedly turns into something far more psychological and surreal. Kurt Johnstad wrote the screenplay, with Stuart Martin and Fra Fee starring in the lead roles.
“The idea of taking camera in hand and simply making a movie in an intimate way is very appealing to me,” Snyder told Deadline when the movie was first announced. “The Last Photograph is a meditation of life and death, embodying some of the trials that I have experienced in my own life and the exploration of those ideas through image making.”
