Henry Cavill’s Superman continues to leave a mark, and now that influence is showing up again through DC Comics artist Fico Ossio.
Ossio took to social media to reveal a new piece of Absolute Superman artwork and confirmed it was inspired by Cavill’s first official image as Superman from Man of Steel.
That original photo showed Cavill emerging from the bank vault in one of the most memorable early looks at Zack Snyder’s take on the character.
Ossio said the image had stayed with him for years and explained that while working on his Absolute Superman piece, he couldn’t resist paying homage to it.

Fico Ossio Says Henry Cavill’s Superman Image Stayed With Him
Ossio wrote, “Sometimes an image stays with you for years.”
He continued, “When the first photo of Henry Cavill as Superman was released, it instantly felt iconic — Superman emerging from the vault, calm, powerful, unstoppable.”
Ossio added that while working on the new Absolute Superman art, he wanted to put his own spin on that moment and push the energy and intensity further.
He also said Superman has always been one of his favorite characters to draw.
The artist credited himself for the artwork and noted that colors were done by Ulises Arreola.

Absolute Superman Draws More Henry Cavill Comparisons
The new piece is already getting attention because it lines up with what a lot of fans have been saying for a while, that Absolute Superman feels visually inspired by Henry Cavill’s version of the character.
That idea has come up repeatedly online as fans point to the darker, more intense look of Absolute Superman compared with more traditional comic versions. Ossio’s post only adds more fuel to that talk because he flat-out admits Cavill’s first Man of Steel image was the inspiration for his latest art.
It’s another example of how Cavill’s Superman still stands out years later, especially among artists and fans who connected with Snyder’s take on the character.

Henry Cavill Recently Reflected On Playing Superman
The timing also stands out because Cavill recently opened up again about what playing Superman meant to him.
“It’s fantastic when kids recognize me because they don’t see you as the actor who plays the superhero, they see you as actual Superman,” Cavill said.
He also said the part came with more than just making the movie.
“When you take on an iconic role like that, I think there is a real responsibility, not just for the movie itself, but how you interact with the huge fanbase,” Cavill added.
Those comments fit with why Cavill’s Superman still resonates. For a lot of people, he wasn’t just playing the role. He became Superman.

Cavill’s Superman Still Has A Grip On DC Fans
Between Cavill’s recent comments, Ossio’s tribute art, and all the talk of the SnyderVerse returning, it’s clear that version of Superman still carries weight.
The Man of Steel vault image remains one of the most recognizable Superman reveals of the modern era, and now it has directly inspired a DC Comics artist working on one of the publisher’s biggest new titles.
That says a lot about not only Cavill’s staying power, but Zack Snyder’s DCEU.
