The official trailer for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple has dropped, giving fans a first look at the continuation of the franchise. The film hits theaters on January 16, 2026.
Watch below.
What’s the story?
Directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Alex Garland, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple expands the universe created by Danny Boyle and Garland while flipping expectations. This time, Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) finds himself in a dangerous new relationship with consequences that stretch far beyond survival. Meanwhile, Spike (Alfie Williams) faces a nightmare encounter with Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell).
The infected remain a threat, but the film shifts focus to the brutality of survivors, showing how human cruelty can be more terrifying than the virus itself.

Cast and crew
The film stars Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams, Erin Kellyman, and Chi Lewis-Parry. Behind the camera, DaCosta directs from Garland’s script. Producers include Andrew Macdonald, Peter Rice, Bernard Bellew, Danny Boyle, and Alex Garland. Cillian Murphy serves as executive producer.
Franchise update
The first entry in the new trilogy, 28 Years Later, was released earlier this year but underperformed at the box office, topping out at $150 million worldwide. The Bone Temple looks to push the series in a darker and more character-driven direction while keeping the scale intact.
