The next Superman movie has reportedly landed a release date, with Warner Bros. and DC Studios claimed to be fast-tracking the sequel for July 16, 2027, though it’s also said a July 9, 2027 release date remains in play.
The film is expected to shoot early next year, at the same time as Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II, which gets released on October 1, 2027.

Gunn Confirms Treatment Is Done
James Gunn recently revealed he’s finished the treatment for what he’s calling the “Superman Saga,” a multi-film storyline that will serve as the backbone of the new DC Universe.
“We’re scheduling it now. I’m totally done with the treatment. My treatments are incredibly intense. They’re not regular treatments. They’re 60-page treatments with dialogue and everything. And so, now I’m just turning that into a script. We’re planning out when we’re going to shoot that. It’s going to be much sooner rather than later,” Gunn filled in Collider.
Gunn added that the Superman follow-up is already in the planning stages and will not take long to move into production.
“I’ve already finished the treatment for the next story in what I’ll call the ‘Superman Saga’. The treatment is done, which means a very, very worked out treatment. I’m working on that and hopefully going into production on that not too far away from today,” said Gunn.
The “Superman Saga”
The sequel will mark the second chapter in what Gunn describes as the “Superman Saga.” However, Gunn previously said it’s not Superman 2.
“Superman has a major role. It’s not ‘Superman 2,’” said Gunn adding, “I’m not sure how you define ‘direct sequel.’ I pretty much think of Peacemaker Season 2 as a direct sequel.”
Box Office Update
The movie is on pace to cross the $600 million mark this week, but is still trailing the likes of Matt Reeves’ The Batman ($772M) and Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel ($670M, unadjusted for inflation).

What’s Next for DCU
The Superman sequel isn’t the only major project on the horizon.
Supergirl is set for release on June 26, 2026.
Peacemaker Season 2 also drops Thursday on HBO Max.
