Netflix has confirmed Guillermo del Toro’s long-awaited Frankenstein will arrive in theaters after all, following fan outcry earlier this year when the film was first announced as a streaming-only release.
To go with the announcement, check out two new posters, and images.

Theatrical Release Dates
The gothic horror will open in select theaters on October 17 before streaming globally on November 7. The move follows pressure from fans who argued a film of this scale and ambition deserved to be seen on the big screen.

Del Toro’s Passion Project
Del Toro has called Frankenstein his favorite novel and has been developing his own version for more than a decade. Unlike many past adaptations, his film will include elements often left out, such as the book’s framing device and North Pole sequence.

“To this day, nobody has made the book,” Del Toro previously explained to Den of Geek. “Part of me wants to do a version of it, part of me has for more than 25 years chickened out of making it.”

Story
Netflix’s official description reads:

“Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro adapts Mary Shelley’s classic tale of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.”

Cast
The star-studded cast includes:

- Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein
- Jacob Elordi as the Creature
- Mia Goth in a lead role
- Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lars Mikkelsen, Christian Convery
- With Charles Dance and Christoph Waltz

First Look
Netflix has released photos featuring Elordi as the Creature, cloaked in scarf and hood, Isaac delivering a lecture as Victor Frankenstein, and Goth in ornate costume. A teaser trailer also shows fragments of Victor’s experiment and the Creature’s awakening. Watch below.

Release info
Fresh off his Oscar-winning Pinocchio, del Toro is finally realizing a dream project he’s carried for decades. By giving the film a theatrical release, Netflix is attempting to satisfy fans who want to experience his vision in cinemas while still keeping to its streaming-first strategy.
