Xochitl Gomez wasn’t listed among the 27 announced cast members for Avengers: Doomsday, but in a new interview, it’s suggested she may be returning as America Chavez.
Gomez debuted in the MCU in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as a dimension-hopping, portal-creating traveler. She hasn’t appeared since, though some fans believe Marvel is building toward a New Avengers or Champions lineup, making her return possible.
At the premiere of Nobody 2, ET asked Gomez about the character. The interviewer hinted she was a lock for the next Avengers movie, noting Gomez is “tight-lipped” before asking what excites her about bringing America Chavez back. Gomez said she was excited for the character’s future and asked fans directly what they’d like to see.
When asked for three words that embody Chavez in the next Avengers installment, Gomez replied: “Bravery, courage, and powerful.” ET then mentioned the large ensemble cast, adding, “Yourself included.” Gomez reacted with a face and a surprised, “Oh.”
Asked who she’d like to work with again, Gomez called it “just speculation,” crossed her fingers, and named Elizabeth Olsen.
After watching the interview, my takeaway is Gomez might not actually be in Avengers: Doomsday. Guess we’ll find out.
Rumors do offer Benedict Cumberbatch is returning as Doctor Strange, with Benedict Wong as Wong. It’s also said another big cast announcement is going to be made soon. On Tuesday, Ryan Reynolds teased Deadpool for the Avengers.
