Reactions are pouring in about the recent leak surrounding James Gunn’s Superman movie — and they aren’t good. But are fans taking it out of context before even seeing the film?
Note: Spoilers follow.
What is the leak?
The leak is now said to be legit as YouTuber Nerdrotic posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the info is true.
According to the leak:
“In the movie, Superman is frustrated by social media backlash, with the hashtag #SuperShit being mentioned several times as really getting under his skin. Meanwhile, in Lex’s interdimensional world, hundreds of mutant monkeys are shown typing furiously at keyboards, flooding social media with hate against Superman.”

James Gunn’s revenge on the internet
Why the reactions haven’t been good is because if sounds like James Gunn will be sending “The Message” — just as he did with Creature Commandos.
Regardless of what side of the political spectrum you’re on, I think we can all agree that when the agenda comes ahead of story, the story suffers.
The leak makes it sound like James Gunn has a vendetta, trying to settle a score from seven years ago when he was fired by Disney/Marvel. It seems like he’s using Superman as a personal weapon to get back at conservatives.
Gunn did something similar in Creature Commandos when he included an Incel army, which made zero sense in the context of the story. He just put them in to stick it to a certain fan base. There’s no doubt about that.
Now with Superman — a property far more well-known than a DC animated show no one watched — Gunn seems to be doubling down with another agenda-driven plot that makes zero sense. Why would Lex Luthor need a mutant army of monkey trolls? Luthor would just use bots, which actually exist (ironically, Zack Snyder has been accused of using bots — and now Snyder cultists are the ones up in arms over Gunn taking over DC).

Best joke of the movie?
However, just maybe, we all are taking it out of context? According to X user, ViewerAnon, who is known for a few scoops here and there, it’s all supposed to be big joke:
Uh guys the #SuperShit thing (don’t look it up if you don’t already know) is one of the best jokes in the movie. Even people who didn’t like it have pointed to the punchline as something fantastic. Wait for the movie to come out.
I posted my reaction on Facebook. Yeah, I haven’t seen the movie, and I have said that, from what I am told by people working on it, Superman is good. However, I’m not finding the above leak to be funny at all. Honestly, I think it’s dumb AF. I’m tired of all the BS. It’s been going on for years and has ruined everything.
