Marvel Shoots Down Black Panther 3 Recasting T'Challa Rumors

Marvel producer Nate Moore shoots down rumors that Black Panther 3 will be recasting T’Challa.

Various rumors have said Marvel is currently looking at actors to play Black Panther, including John David Washington, Kelvin Harrison Jr.,  Aaron Pierre (James Gunn’s Green Lantern John Stewart), Aldis Hodge, John Boyega, Damson Idris, and David Oyelowo. Hodge actually addressed the rumors on X stating he turned it down, but he looks to have been having fun with the fans as he added he also turned down playing a co-lead as James Bond with Daniel Craig, and an Eddie Murphy biopic.

What does Nate Moore say about the rumors?

Nate Moore, who produced the Black Panther movies, Eternals, and Captain America: Brave New World, filled in Comic Book the following:

“The truth is, there’s no truth to those rumors. Never say never to anything, we haven’t really had a lot of creative conversations with Ryan Coogler yet, because he’s finishing his film Sinners, which comes out this year. We’ll get into it later this year, but everything you read online is not true, if for no other reason than we just haven’t started [working on it].”

Worth a mention is that of course Moore isn’t going to confirm the rumors. Moore also happens to be exiting Marvel after Brave New World but will be sticking around to develop Black Panther 3 (probably because it’s in his contract).

Will Marvel recast Black Panther?

Personally, I think Marvel would be dumb NOT to recast Black Panther. Everybody wants T’Challa back in the MCU. Even Chadwick Boseman’s brother has said so.

While T’Challa died in Black Panther 2, this is comic book movies we are talking about here, so they could easily bring T’Challa back somehow. The fans deserve it. If Marvel didn’t want to recast T’Challa so soon, they shouldn’t even have released Black Panther 2 which was a mess of a film. Nobody wants Shuri as Black Panther. Likewise, the confirmed woke Ironheart was injected into the film and they made Namor Mexican which made zero sense.

Black Panther 3 details

Marvel was forced to confirm Black Panther 3 when Denzel Washington let it slip Ryan Coogler is writing a part for him. In the announcement of Moore exiting Marvel, Marvel Studios confirmed Black Panther 3 is in development. Ryan Coogler is expected to be back to direct. There is no official release date. It’s likely Black Panther 3 will be released after Avengers: Secret Wars, possibly as one of those 2028 release dates.
