It’s claimed that Nicolas Cage will be suiting back up as Ghost Rider bringing the Spirit of Vengeance to the MCU.
The rumor comes via scooper Daniel RPK who goes so far as to say it’s a done deal:
“If you remember, I was the first to report that Wesley Snipes would reprise his role as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine. Now, I can confirm that Nic Cage will reprise his role as Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider in an upcoming project. I don’t know which one just yet, but there aren’t many options left.”
There were talks for Deadpool & Wolverine
Of course, Nicolas Cage played Ghost Rider in the two Sony movies which are not a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ryan Reynolds has also confirmed they talked about bringing Cage in as Ghost Rider for Deadpool & Wolverine (via Variety):
Asked if Cage was pursued to reprise Ghost Rider, Reynolds answered: “Yes.” The actor then added: “Came to a conversation for sure. Yeah, but no.”
Open to a return
Back in 2022, Cage also said he would be open for a return to the character. In a Reddit AMA, he said:
“I would really need to see what they had in mind before answering that,” Cage replied to the Redditor who questioned if he would ever return to playing Ghost Rider if Marvel asked.
How will Nicolas Cage return as Ghost Rider in the MCU?
All we can do is speculate how Nicolas Cage will be back as Ghost Rider and how it will connect to the MCU. Likely, it will be about the Multiverse.
Marvel has Avengers: Doomsday coming out in 2026 which is confirmed to feature the return of Robert Downey Jr. However, Downey is not back as Iron Man, but is playing Doctor Doom. It is speculated Downey’s Doom is from the Multiverse, possibly from the same planet as the Fantastic Four, which is also confirmed to be another Marvel Multiverse movie and gets released next year.
Of course, all this leads to Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. Nicolas Cage could either return in anyone of those or even both.
It seems to be coming clear that a great Marvel reset is happening following Secret Wars.
Danny Ketch version could be MCU bound
Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, recently said he would want the Danny Ketch version of Ghost Rider in the MCU who was super popular in the comics in the 90s:
“I would wanna do the Danny Ketch era of Ghost Rider. I think there are a lot of people who would be here for some Ghost Rider.”
Nicolas Cage also happens to be starring as another Marvel superhero for Sony as Spider-Noir in the Prime Video TV series currently in development.
