Following the two-episode premiere of James Gunn’s Creature Commandos animated series (read my review), we get a first look at David Corenswet as Superman in DCU animation.
Update: The scene has been released in full and also shows the DCU Wonder Woman and Batman.
No worries, no spoilers follow.
DC Studios has released a new Creature Commandos “weeks ahead” trailer which happens to feature a really horrific scene of Superman and other characters (note: the previews following the episodes feature major spoilers; I recommend not watching them).
David Corenswet’s Superman can be seen all bloody on a cross. Now, who could do that to the Man of Steel?
Behind him can be see other characters on pikes. The one to the left sort of looks like an Amazon. Maybe that’s Wonder Woman or another Amazonian?
I don’t know what the context is but maybe it’s some sort of future vision? Reminds me a lot of Wolverine on the cross in X-Men 251.
I’ve also seen complaints on Twitter offering that people complained Zack Snyder’s take on Superman was too serious and hopeless — so what’s this say?!
Gunn has said the animated characters and actors will appear in live-action, so it’s probably safe to say it’s vice versa.
It would be pretty wild if David Corenswet’s Superman actually shows up in Creature Commandos with speaking lines ahead of the big July release.
The Superman trailer is also expected in the next couple of weeks which will give us our first live-action look at David Corenswet in the DCU.
Frank Grillo, who plays Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos, Superman, and Peacemaker Season 2, recently said good things about Corenswet and went so far as to compare him to Christopher Reeve.
The first two episodes of Creature Commandos are now out, with new episodes getting released Thursdays. Superman arrives in theaters on July 11, 2025.
