The Odyssey Tickets Trigger Chaos After AMC Pauses Sales

The Odyssey Tickets Trigger Chaos After AMC Pauses Sales

The Odyssey premium large-format tickets are now on sale for select screenings ahead of the film’s July 17, 2026 release, and Christopher Nolan fans wasted no time rushing IMAX and other specialty formats. For the full rundown on cast, plot, runtime, and release details, check out our complete guide to The Odyssey.

Universal is pushing the movie as a true big-screen event, with tickets currently available for premium large-format screenings including IMAX 70mm, IMAX, 70mm film, 35mm film, RPX, 4DX, and other specialty presentations.

The marketing is all about seeing Nolan’s latest epic “on the largest screen possible,” which lines up with the director’s long-running push for theatrical and film-format viewing.

But the bigger story might be the ticketing chaos.

AMC App Pauses Line For The Odyssey Tickets

Demand for The Odyssey IMAX and premium screenings appears to be high enough that AMC’s ticketing system briefly paused its online queue.

A screenshot circulating online shows the AMC Theatres waiting room with the message, “You are now in line,” followed by “The line is paused.”

Fans trying to buy tickets reported waits stretching close to an hour, with some saying they ran into errors, crashes, stalled queues, and failed checkout attempts after finally reaching the ticket selection page.

The biggest demand seems to be for IMAX 70mm screenings, which are naturally limited because only select theaters can play the format. For Nolan fans, those seats have become the premium target, especially after the huge IMAX run for Oppenheimer.

Fans Vent Over Errors, Queues, And Possible Scalpers

Reaction on X has been a mix of excitement and frustration. Some fans celebrated finally landing seats, while others ripped AMC and Fandango over the chaotic rollout.

According to posts circulating on X, users described the ticket drop as a “bloodbath,” with some saying they spent one to two hours trying to buy seats only to get hit with repeated error messages.

Others said they had better luck switching devices, trying different sites, or moving to alternate theaters such as TCL Chinese Theatre.

There are also early complaints about scalpers and resale listings, which has become a recurring issue whenever limited-format Nolan tickets go on sale.

Fans say the ticket sales for movies are starting to feel like concert ticket drops, complete with queues, bots, FOMO, and instant sellouts for the best seats.

At the same time, not every theater appears to be selling out across the board. Some users pointed to local showings with plenty of seats still available, raising the usual debate over whether the demand is truly widespread or concentrated around major premium locations in big cities and Nolan’s preferred formats.
