James Gunn’s DCU Batman Now Said To Be ‘Years’ Away — If It Happens

James Gunn’s DCU Batman might not be happening anytime soon, and based on the latest rumor, The Brave and the Bold could be pushed back for years.

According to scooper DanielRPK, The Brave and the Bold isn’t coming anytime soon.

He claims Gunn is instead pushing to fast-track Matt Reeves’ The Batman 3, as Gunn reportedly “doesn’t want two Batmans” running at the same time.

If true, that means the DCU Batman could be years away from appearing on the big screen. It also raises the question of whether Gunn’s Batman will ever actually happen.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold: Andy Muschietti and Christina Hodson Rumored

The Brave and the Bold pushed back?

The Brave and the Bold was announced as the Batman movie for Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU, with the film set to introduce Bruce Wayne alongside his son, Damian Wayne.

However, the project has had little movement since its announcement. No actor has been cast as Batman, no release date has been announced, and the film has not appeared to be a priority compared to Superman, Supergirl, Lanterns, Clayface, and other DCU projects.

Now, the new rumor claims The Brave and the Bold has been pushed back as Gunn waits for Matt Reeves’ Batman trilogy to wrap up first.

Does Gunn’s DCU Batman ever happen?

The bigger question is whether Gunn’s Batman ever actually happens.

Batman is DC’s biggest character, but Gunn’s new DCU already has a lot on its plate. Superman is leading the new movie universe, Supergirl is on the way, Lanterns will introduce Hal Jordan and John Stewart, and Clayface is also moving forward.

Adding another Batman while Pattinson’s version is still active was always going to create confusion.

If Gunn is waiting for Reeves’ trilogy to finish before introducing the DCU Batman, that could mean fans won’t see the new Batman until near the end of the decade, if not later.

WBD sale rumors could also impact DC

The report also comes as Warner Bros. Discovery continues to face major sale rumors and uncertainty over the future of the company.

Any change in ownership could impact DC Studios, its slate, and how aggressive the studio wants to be with multiple Batman projects.

Batman is a billion-dollar brand for Warner Bros., so it makes sense the studio would want to avoid muddying the waters with competing versions at the same time.

At the same time, pushing Gunn’s Batman back for years would be another sign that the DCU is still being built around Superman first, while Batman remains tied to Reeves and Pattinson for now.

Batman remains in limbo

For now, The Brave and the Bold remains announced, but there is no release date, no cast, and no clear sign of when it will move forward.

If DanielRPK’s rumor is accurate, Gunn’s DCU Batman is not coming anytime soon.

And if The Batman 3 is now the priority, it’s fair to wonder whether Gunn’s version of the Dark Knight ever makes it to the screen at all.
