It’s now being speculated that The Walking Dead movie may be in the works starring Andrew Lincoln, or quite possibly another spin-off series or even a video game.
This past Comic-Con saw Andrew Lincoln confirm his departure from the series, but interestingly enough, his words seem to come off rather cryptically, with fans speculating he will eventually do a The Walking Dead movie.
“There seems to be an elephant in the room,” Lincoln told a packed crowd in Hall H at Comic-Con. “This will be my last season playing the part of Rick Grimes.”
It’s pointed out that Andrew Lincoln stated “his last season” and not his last time, and he also added that his “relationship with Rick Grimes is far from over,” which does sounds as if he is contuining the role of Rick Grimes in some form, possibly meaning in a The Walking Dead movie.
It’s further pointed out that The Walking Dead movie is possible by EW.com who spoke with the actor as Lincoln said: “Let me clarify something. Yes, it’s my last season on the TV show, The Walking Dead.”
The article points out Lincoln’s statement (“my last season on the TV show”) mirrors the other crypics comments made by the star that seem to indicate he is leaving the door open possibly for a return as Rick Grimes in some form.
Regarding why Andrew Lincoln is leaving the series, he said it’s because of his family, who lives in England.
“I have two young children, and I live in a different country, and they become less portable as they get older,” he said. “It was that simple. It was time for me to come home.”
What’s rather interesting is that movies do film in England (Star Wars and Spider-Man: Far From Home, for example), which means Andrew Lincoln could stay in the UK while filming on The Walking Dead movie and still remain close to his family.
Former Showrunner Scott Gimple, who is now the Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead universe, did previously confirm a The Walking Dead movie is being talked about, and in AMC’s official announcement about Gimple there was mention of “potential brand extensions on a variety of platforms”:
“Current showrunner Scott M. Gimple is being elevated to Chief Content Officer, overseeing the entire Dead television universe, including The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, and potential brand extensions on a variety of platforms,” the AMC press release states.
