Spoilers follow for tonight’s episode of The Walking Dead.
November of 2016, I posted an article questioning if Chandler Riggs was leaving The Walking Dead as his 7-year contract was ending and it became known he was going off to college.
Now over a year later, tonight’s episode confirms the fate of Carl.
While defending Alexandria from Negan’s attack, the end of tonight’s episode sees Rick reunite with Judith as well as Carl; however, Carl reveals that he was bitten by a walker.
AMC revealed the final scene:
I have to say that I am really sad to see Carl leave The Walking Dead as he is one of my favorite characters on the series, but if he needs to get on with his life and college, I definitely understand.
I know Chandler Riggs did try out for the role of Peter Parker and Spider-Man for Spider-Man: Homecoming, so perhaps he wants to broaden his horizon and get involved in more television and movies.
The Walking Dead definitely won’t be the same without Chandler Riggs, and I can’t imagine how Rick is going to deal with losing Carl.
