Y The Last Man TV Series In Development At FX

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22473:]]

Brian K. Vaughan’s Y The Last Man will see the light of day as an FX TV series.

THR reports following the movie rights having reverted from New Line Cinemas, Vaughan and Color Force’s Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson are bringing to life Y The Last Man at FX.

Y: The Last Man was a popular DC Comics Vertigo comic book that began in 2002 running for 60 issues. The plot of Y: The Last Man centers around the last man on Earth – actually one of two last males of all the mammals – with the other being Yorick Brown’s pet monkey. The series sees various post-apocalyptic and political themes play into the mix with Brown visiting geneticists, presidents and secret agents.

Our own Ken Porter covered Y: The Last Man in his Alt Beat comic book colum from a while back: “This series is a good-old fashioned combination of apocalypse, road trips, and a study of the human condition. Superhero comics can give us action on a fantastic scale, but Y: The Last Man delivers action and adventure in a realistic science fiction setting. The stakes are always high and the situations vary with every issue.”

The report notes a search is currently under way to find a writer to develop the Y The Last Man series with Vaughan, and a director for the potential series has not yet been determined.

Marvel & Fox Developing X-Men’s Hellfire Club TV Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22466:]]

Hot on the heels of the Legion FX TV series announcement, now Marvel has announced a new FOX TV series based on the X-Men’s Hellfire Club.

Similar to the Legion announcement, once again we see no mention of the X-Men or mutants in the official info, but the X-Men producers are on board the project as well.

In the comics, the Hellfire Club members include Sebastian Shaw, Emma Frost, Harry Leland, Donald Pierce, Tessa, Selene, Magneto, Storm, Shinobi Shaw, Trevor Fitzroy, Madelyne Pryor, Sat-yr-9, Phoenix and Sunspot.

Info:

FOX is in development on an action-adventure series HELLFIRE (working title), it was announced today by David Madden, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

Set in the late 1960s, the series — which will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television, with 20th Century Fox handling the physical production — follows a young Special Agent who learns that a power-hungry woman with extraordinary abilities is working with a clandestine society of millionaires – known as “The Hellfire Club” – to take over the world.

“We are thrilled to partner with Marvel to bring this world to television and build upon the vibrant mythology that has captivated fans for years,” said Madden. “These powerful and dynamic characters are complicated and larger-than-life, the pace and visual imagination are unrelenting, and the story takes place during one of the most explosive eras in recent history. We are so looking forward to working with this incredibly talented team.”

“HELLFIRE is a unique opportunity to be able to go deeper with some of these extraordinary characters, but to also dramatize new characters and give TV viewers a chance to experience this expanded world in an explosive way that everyone will be talking about,” commented Jonathan Davis, President, Creative Affairs, 20th Century Fox Television.  “The action at the center of HELLFIRE will be dynamic and will satisfy the rabid fans, but that said, newcomers will surely be addicted too!”

HELLFIRE is a co-production of 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television. Evan Katz (“24: Live Another Day”), Manny Coto (“24”), Patrick McKay (“Star Trek 3”) and JD Payne (“Star Trek 3”) are co-creators. McKay and Payne will write the pilot script, based on a story by Katz, Coto, McKay and Payne. Lauren Shuler Donner (“X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “The Wolverine”), Bryan Singer (“X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “X-Men: Apocalypse”), Simon Kinberg (“X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “Fantastic Four”), Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, “Marvel’s Daredevil”) and Jim Chory (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Marvel’s Daredevil”) will executive-produce the pilot, alongside Katz and Coto, who will serve as showrunners.

Marvel & FX Developing X-Men’s Legion TV series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22465:]]

Per the official info below, Marvel and FX are developing a new TV series based on the X-Men character Legion, who in the comics is Professor X’s estranged son, David Charles Haller, who is an omega-level mutant suffering from a multiple personality disorder.

Interestingly enough, the info makes no mention of Professor X, mutants or the X-Men (possibly because Fox owns the movie rights), though we do see X-Men producers Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg are involved.

This may be a good sign for the live-action Fox X-Men TV series as well, as Marvel would need to sign off on that project.

It may also signify that relations between Fox and Marvel are improved — following the rumors of eccentric billionaire Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter being at odds with Fox over the Marvel-licensed characters at the studio.

There has also been a rumor of an Avengers/X-Men movie for 2020.

Update: Fox and Marvel are developing a HellFire TV series.

Legion info:

FX Networks has ordered the pilot for Legion, the story of a troubled young man who may be more than human, it was announced today by Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, Presidents of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions.

The pilot introduces the story of David Haller: Since he was a teenager, David has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.

Noah Hawley (Fargo, Bones) will write the pilot and serve as an Executive Producer along with Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Wolverine), Bryan Singer (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Superman Returns), Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Martain), Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel’s Daredevil), Jim Chory (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel’s Daredevil) and John Cameron (Fargo, The Big Lebowski).

The pilot for Legion will be produced by FX Productions and Marvel Television, with FXP handling the physical production.

“Legion is just the sort of ambitious story that Noah excels at,” Grad said. “His adaption of Fargo for television was one of the most acclaimed television events in recent memory. It’s also an honor to partner with Marvel on Legion and to enlist such an accomplished team of Executive Producers to create this pilot.”

Legion is the latest project from Hawley and Cameron, two of the Executive Producers of the Emmy and Golden Globe -winning FX limited series Fargo.

SyFy Cancels Dominion

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22457:]]

It’s learned following two seasons that SyFy has cancelled Dominion.

THR reports NBCUniversal has decided to cancel the series, which was based on the 2010 Paul Bettany film Legion.

“Led by [series creator] Vaun Wilmott, the talented cast, producers, writers and crew of Dominion have done a tremendous job bringing this ambitious, cinematic series to the screen over the past two seasons,” said a Syfy in a statement. “We thank them, as well as our producing partners Universal Cable Productions, Bold Films and Film Afrika.”

A reason given for the cancellation of Dominion is that the ratings dropped by 47 percent in the coveted adult 18-49 advertising demographic.

The report also mentions the future of Defiance is up in the air.

While Dominion has been cancelled, SyFy still has a plethora of science-ficiton shows in the works with The Expanse and Childhood’s End coming this December; The Magicians and Hunters are due out in 2016, and new seasons of 12 Monkeys, Killjoys and Dark Matter are in the works.

It’s also stated the David Goyer Superman prequel series, Krypton, is still in development, as well as Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Incorporated; Hyperion, Brave New World and The Final Odyssey.

Ash For President Viral Campaign Launched

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22451:]]

Following on the heels of the first episode premiere at the NYCC, it’s now learned Starz has launched a viral site for Ash Vs. Evil Dead with “Ash For President.”

A Twitter account was established following last month’s Republican debate, and a Tumblr account and web site have also been launched touting to vote for Bruce Campbell‘s character, Ash, from Ash Vs. Evil Dead.

“What we saw last night was horsesh-t and it’s become clear to us just what America needs: #Ash4President. Join us!” the first tweet reads.

“This debate has more issues than our middle school years,” stated the most recent tweets posted. “Can’t we just challenge Putin to a shirtless arm wrestling contest? On a horse?”

The Ash4President web site also features an “Ash-Roots” movement with promo posters, polls and campaign gear that is unfortunatley said to be: “fresh out bummer.”

Chances are you, or someone you know, has suffered at the hands of a filthy, stinking Deadite. The question is, what does your chosen presidential candidate plan to do about it? If they aren’t on the frontlines with a chainsaw for a hand then they ain’t shit. Ashley James “Ash” Williams solemnly swears to kick ass, take names (numbers too if it’s a hot lady) and smile while doing it. You’re welcome.

“Ash Vs. Evil Dead” premiers October 31st at 9pm ET on Starz.

SyFy Launches All-New Virtual Reality Experience For The Expanse App

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22435:]]

SyFy has announced the launch of all-new content for its virtual reality app for The Expanse, the network’s highly-anticipated drama series from Alcon Television Group premiering this December. The app immerses viewers into the vast world of The Expanse, giving them the opportunity to enter into locations from the show and experience them in virtual reality.

In a new scene that debuted on October 8th, viewers fly by The Expanse’s Tycho Station, the largest mobile space platform in the solar system. Also seen in detail is The Nauvoo, a two kilometer long Mormon missionary ship currently under construction.

“The Expanse VR” app – available for iOS and Android devices – was launched in July 2015 at San Diego Comic-Con with an experience that takes users on a 360-degree tour of the spaceship Canterbury (the massive ice freighter introduced in the first episode of The Expanse).  Since launch, the app has already received several honors, winning Silver at the 2015 W3 awards in the following categories: Television – Innovative/Experimental and Entertainment – Innovative/Experimental.

Conceived from a partnership between Syfy and NBCUniversal Media Labs, the app was developed by IM360 in collaboration with artists at Digital Domain. The team worked in close conjunction with the visual effects department on The Expanse, maintaining the experience’s authenticity by working off of materials used to build the environments on the show.

Premiering on Syfy Monday, December 14 at 10PM ET/PT, The Expanse is a 10-episode drama set 200 years in the future, after mankind has colonized the solar system. A hardened detective (Thomas Jane) and a rogue ship’s captain (Steven Strait) come together for what starts as the case of a missing young woman and evolves into a race across the solar system to expose the greatest conspiracy in human history. The series is based on the New York Times bestselling book series collectively known as The Expanse, written by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck (under the pen name James S. A. Corey).

Now Iron Fist Rumored To Be Cancelled; Inhumans Cancellation Update

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22417:]]

The virtual “civil war” between Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige and eccentric billionaire Ike Perlmutter continues as, following the rumor of the Inhumans movie being cancelled, now it’s said the Netflix Iron Fist series may be on the chopping block.

The rumor comes once again from Bleeding Cool who apparently spoke to a few tipsy Marvel Comics/TV employees at this past weekend’s NYCC.

According to the report, Marvel Studios gets the final say and sign-off on how Iron Fist appears, with it said the “show may be killed with such procedural notes.” While the report doesn’t mention it, it could be possible Marvel Studios may want Iron Fist in their own movies. Iron Fist was/is supposed to be its own Netflix series and a part of the Netflix Defenders series along with Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage.

Regarding the cancellation of the Inhumans movie, a few sites have contradicted the info, but BC is sticking by their own sources (again speculated to be in the Marvel Comics/TV division) stating the info is coming out of Kevin Feige’s camp. Another site also states if Black Bolt and the Royal Family first appear on the Agents Of SHIELD TV series, that it will mean the movie is a definite goner.

It’s further suggested Marvel Studios is “de-prioritizing” Inhumans with the excuse for dropping it stated to be that they could never find the right people for it.

The Magicians premiers in 2016.

Info:

Based upon Lev Grossman’s best-selling books, The Magicians stars Jason Ralph (A Most Violent Year, Aquarius) as Quentin Coldwater, a brilliant grad student who enrolls in Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy, a secret upstate New York university specializing in magic. He and his 20-something friends soon discover that the magical fantasy world they read about as children is all too real— and poses grave danger to humanity.  Stella Maeve (Chicago P.D.), Olivia Taylor Dudley (Vatican Tapes, Paranormal Activity 5), Hale Appleman (Teeth), Arjun Gupta (Nurse Jackie), and Summer Bishil (Towelhead, Lucky 7) also star in this one-hour drama.

Groundswell Productions’ Michael London and Janice Williams (Milk) will executive produce. John McNamara (Aquarius) and Sera Gamble (Supernatural), writers of the pilot, will serve as executive producers.

Lev Grossman’s Magicians trilogy is an international sensation, published and widely praised in more than twenty countries. The epic conclusion to the series, The Magician’s Land, opened at #1 last summer on The New York Times Hardcover Best Seller’s list, and was widely acclaimed as one of the best books of the year.

“Ever since The Magicians was published I’ve wanted to see this story on screen,” said Lev Grossman. “The people, the school, the other worlds, the magic. I’m so thrilled that it’s finally happening, and I’m beyond thrilled that we found the right people to do it. Get ready; you’ve never seen anything like this.”
