Walking Dead’s Chandler Riggs Not Playing New Spider-Man

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20965:]]

With Marvel searching for a new Spider-Man, it’s been said they tested a bunch of young actors for the part.

One of those actors looks to be Chandler Riggs, known for playing Carl on The Walking Dead.

Riggs tweeted out the following a couple of hours ago stating good luck to whoever lands the Spider-Man role, which seems to insinuate he tried out for the new Spider-Man, but didn’t get the part.

Riggs also uses the Captain America: Civil War hashtag, which may mean he has insider knowledge that while trying out for the Spider-Man role, he was told it is for Captain America 3.

According to the Hollywood trade sites, Marvel is close to choosing their new Spider-Man with Tom Holland, Asa Butterfield, Judah Lewis, Matthew Lintz, Charlie Rowe and Charlie Plummer said to be the top contenders.

A new Spider-Man solo movie is also being planned for 2017.

Marvel & George Romero’s Empire Of The Dead Announced As TV Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20683:]]

With The Walking Dead having two series and Z-Nation on SyFy, you knew it wouldn’t be long before zombie godfather George Romero got his own flesh-eating series.

Variety has announced that Romero’s Empire of the Dead graphic novel is being adapted for TV.

Romero published the comic through Marvel Comics; however, it isn’t a part of the regular Marvel Universe, so don’t expect the Marvel Zombies to show up.

Demarest Films is behind the project, with it noted the production company recently backed Kevin Smith’s Tusk, and announced the news today at the Cannes Festival in France.

The Empire of the Dead TV series will be written by Geroge Romero and longtime partner Peter Grunwald, and executive produced by Romero and Grunwald with Demarest’s Sam Englebardt and William D. Johnson.

Romero is, of course, known for the Night of the Living Dead zombie movies.

Marvel Comics published the first Empire of the Dead comic back in January of 2014, described as:

Welcome to New York City years after the undead plague has erupted—but just because Manhattan has been quarantined, don’t think that everyone inside is safe! Not only do flesh-eaters roam within Manhattan, but there’s another ancient predator about to take a bite out of the Big Apple!

The ancient predator referred to are blood-suckers, so the series features both vamprires and zombies.

A network has yet to pick up the series.

Lionsgate Launching Streaming Service For Comic-Con Fans

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19969:]]

Lionsgate is teaming with Comic-Con International to create a Netflix-like digital subscription video-on-demand streaming service to be launched later this year.

The new service is being described as a year-round online experience for long time fans and emerging audiences worldwide that will launch with a broad portfolio of content including original short-form content created exclusively for the channel’s subscribers, films and television series from Lionsgate and other studios designed to appeal to the diverse interests of Comic-Con’s fan base as well as exclusive archived footage from Comic-Con’s 45-year history.  As part of the new channel, the two companies will also work closely to make the Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival (CCI-IFF) a 365-day-a-year online event.

Last year 17 of the top 20 North American box office blockbusters had a presence at the Comic-Con Convention along with iconic television series such as The Walking Dead and American Horror Story.  Comic-Con International has grown from 300 attendees in the basement of San Diego’s U.S. Grant Hotel in 1970 to well over 130,000 fans from around the world last year, marking its evolution into a staple of popular culture and the longest-running comics and popular arts convention in America.  Badges for this year’s Comic-Con sold out in 60 minutes.

“We’re thrilled that the biggest pop culture event of the year will become a year-round digital channel for Comic-Con fans and audiences around the world,” said Lionsgate President of Worldwide Television & Digital Distribution Jim Packer. “The fan base for the kind of films and television series showcased at Comic-Con has grown exponentially, and a subscription video-on-demand service is the ideal platform to capture the magic and excitement of the Comic-Con experience year-round as well as the perfect vehicle for Comic-Con fans to discover new content.”

Reflecting the tremendous interest in the diverse roster of comics, films and television series showcased at Comic-Con International each year, the two companies plan to roll out the new service beginning with the U.S. later this year.

“From the beginning of our discussions, nearly two years ago, we have been extremely impressed with Lionsgate’s embracing and understanding of fan culture,” said Comic-Con’s Director of Marketing and Public Relations David Glanzer. “Working with our Lionsgate partners has been an exciting exercise in finding great ways to expand our horizons to deliver the unique magic of Comic-Con and the celebration of comics and popular art to our fans 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and around the world.”

“As a next generation studio, Lionsgate has grown up with Comic-Con, and their fans are our audiences,” said Lionsgate President of Interactive Ventures & Games Peter Levin. “We’re excited by the opportunity to expand and enrich the world of Comic-Con for existing fans and extend it to a whole new global audience with a channel distinguished by its imaginative curation, depth and diversity of content and fierce loyalty to the Comic-Con brand.”

Originally showcasing comic books, film and fantasy literature, Comic-Con has grown to also encompass science fiction, horror, animation, anime, manga, toys, collectibles, video games, interactive multimedia, webcomics, fantasy novels and other aspects of pop culture. In addition to San Diego Comic-Con International, the new subscription video-on-demand service will also have exclusive access to the archives of sister convention WonderCon.

The new Comic-Con International channel is the third streaming service to be launched or announced by Lionsgate as the Company continues to build its suite of online platforms to deliver content directly to consumers. Lionsgate also recently launched the Lionsgate Entertainment World platform with the Alibaba Group in China and has announced the planned launch this summer of Tribeca Shortlist, a subscription video-on-demand service for film aficionados in partnership with Tribeca Enterprises.

Lennie James Talks Walking Dead Season 6

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19868:]]

Fans finally got to see Morgan reunite with Rick on the Season 5 finale of The Walking Dead.

However, it didn’t look to be a happy reunion as Morgan seems to be some sort of zen-master who won’t kill, while Rick is taking the opposite approach.

The Walking Dead Season 6 doesn’t return until October, but Lennie James spoke with TV Guide about his future with the series.

Will Morgan’s change in mental state be explained?

As with the change we saw from the man in the pilot to the man in “Clear,” there was, for want of a better word, an origin story to how Morgan had lost his mind. There is an origin story to the Morgan we meet in the season finale. I don’t know which way it’s going to be told, but I am pretty sure that origin story will in some way, shape or form will come to light in Season 6 and explain who this Morgan is.

How much will Morgan be a part of The Walking Dead Season 6?

All I can say is it will be at least one episode to clarify and resolve his arrival in Alexandria. Beyond that, at the moment I’m not at liberty to say.

Lennie James also teases who taught him how to bo staff fight:

I can say that the skills you see him displaying in the finale, he’s been taught.

The Walking Dead Season 6 Teaser

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19853:]]

Earlier tonight saw The Walking Dead Season 5 season finale air, which is actually drawing mixed reactions on social networks.

Some fans absolutley loved it, while others felt it came up short (and some are even complaining that none of the regulars died!).

Following the episode, on Chris Hardwick’s Talking Dead, a Walking Dead Season 6 teaser note from showrunner Scott Gimple was read out loud.

Check it out:

“Season 6 for a good while now, humans have been the bigger threat. At the start of our next season, that will change. I said the show reinvents itself every 8 eps, and we’re doing it again, friendos. Now that these characters know they have what it takes to survive, what are they going to do with that power? How will they choose to live? Beyond answering those questions, we’re currently putting into motion some of our most ambitious stuff yet, and things are going to get very big, loud and scary.”

As we all know, “The Walking Dead” has been said to refer to the humans, but per Gimple’s remarks above, maybe the show is going back to its roots with more zombies?

We’ll have to wait until next Fall to find out as The Walking Dead Season 6 returns in October.

Jon Hamm Open To Playing Negan In The Walking Dead (Video)

Some are speculating the mysterious “W” carved into the skulls of The Walking Dead zombies may be the work of the comics villain, Negan.

Previously TWD creator Robert Kirkman stated he thought Jon Hamm wouldn’t be a bad choice to play the character.

Hamm is finished with Mad Men, another AMC series, so maybe he has some time on his schedule for The Walking Dead.

MTV caught up with the actor and asked him about it, which he seems pretty open to.

The Walking Dead: Invasion Novel Announced

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19719:]]

The next novel for The Walking Dead has been announced with The Walking Dead: Invasion.

Jay Bonansinga returns to write the new book that will be hitting shelves on October 6th and again follows hero Lilly Caul.

You can pre-order the book through Amazon at a discount.

Here is the official synopsis and cover:

Out of the ashes of a devastated Woodbury, Georgia, two opposing camps of ragtag survivors develop – each one on a collision course with the other.

Underground, in the labyrinth of ancient tunnels and mine shafts, Lilly Caul and her motley crew of senior citizens, misfits, and children struggle to build a new life. But a secret ambition still burns in Lilly’s heart and soul. She wants her beloved town of Woodbury back from the plague of walkers, and now the only thing that stands in her way currently roams the wasted backwaters of Georgia…

Way out in the hinterlands, amidst the rising tide of walkers that seem to be pushing in from all directions, the psychotic Reverend Jeremiah Garlitz rebuilds his army of followers with a diabolical secret weapon. He has designs on the destruction of Lilly and her crew – the very people who vanquished his cultish church – and now, for the first time, he has the means to bring a special brand of hell down upon the tunnel dwellers.

The final confrontation between these two human factions unleashes an unthinkable weapon – forged from the monstrous hordes of undead, perfected by a madman, and soaked in the blood of innocents.

Watch: The Walking Dead Spoiler Death Scenes

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19676:]]

It’s been a couple of days since Sunday’s shocking episode of The Walking Dead that saw not one, but two members of the group meet their maker that night.

Aiden bit the dust when he fired upon a zombie army soldier that happened to have a grenade.

The next death happened as a result of that as the zombies were let loose from the cage, and then Glenn and Noah were trapped in the revolving door.

In probably one of the most gruesome death scenes that I can recall for the show, Noah was eaten alive and had his face ripped apart while Glenn sat their watching (Aiden’s was pretty gruesome as well).

The episode seemed to foreshadow Noah having a long life taking over as the new architect. Well, it can be argued Noah was responsible for the deaths of both Beth and Tyreese, so I guess he had it coming.

Check out Noah’s death scene:

Robert Kirkman Blasts DC’s Approach To Batman Vs Superman & Justice League

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19654:]]

We just heard Patton Oswalt’s rant about the DC Movies, now it’s creator of The Walking Dead Robert Kirkman’s turn.

Kirkman appeared on a panel titled “Creative Activism” at the South by Southwest conference in Austin earlier on Saturday where he talked about the difference between Marvel’s approach to The Avengers and DC’s with Batman Vs. Superman and Justice League.

“I’m going to get in trouble here … Anyone would be foolish to think that Marvel hasn’t done something extremely special. I think of Iron Man ending with with a surprise cameo from Samuel L. Jackson [mentioning] The Avengers – you were like, ‘What?! How did that happen?!’ People forget that was a surprise. Everything that came out of that was very organic and very exciting. I think [DC] announcing you’re going to do a Justice League movie after a Superman movie, that was neat and had some awesome things in it, but it wasn’t like amazing or groundbreaking – I shouldn’t have said that. It was an awesome movie, I like it. [The plan] just seems derivative, so it puts them in a backseat position to Marvel. It’s not organic so there’s going to be so much scrutiny on Batman vs. Superman when it comes out. It’s got an uphill battle. If they hadn’t told anybody if the Justice League were going to appearing in that, and they were forming that, it would have been surprising and exciting and weird. People are forgetting how important the surprise is. But, you know, Aquaman looks awesome and I’m sure it will be great.”

(via EW)

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has a March 25, 2016 release starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter and Tao Okamoto in new character roles for the film. Justice League is to follow directed by Zack Snyder as well.

First Look At Walking Dead Spinoff; Gets Two Season Order

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19565:]]Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane

AMC has released the first image still from The Walking Dead spinoff in addition to announcing the new series will have at least two seasons.

The as-of-yet untitled series will be set in LA focusing on new characters and storylines featuring six one-hour episodes and premiering on AMC this Summer, with the second season due out in 2016.

The Walking Dead spinoff stars Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey.

“We take incredibly seriously the notion of building a satisfying companion series to the number one show on television. From the beginning of ‘The Walking Dead’ on AMC, we’ve been asked questions about what was going on in other parts of the zombie apocalypse, and what it looked like as the world really did ‘turn.’ Through this new series, we’re going to find out,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “Robert Kirkman, Dave Erickson and their writing team, along with an incomparable set of producers, cast and crew have created something remarkable and clearly distinct. We respectfully follow the request of Monty Python as we bring out (the latest of) our Dead.”

“We feel empowered by this two-season commitment, a serious show of faith from our network partner AMC,” Kirkman said. “I personally take it as a sign that they believe, like we do, that we’ve accomplished our goal of developing something original that can pay tribute to the original show and expand the world I created while at the same time having something new to say with this story. I’m very grateful that we now have the opportunity to tell this amazing story and show the fans that we really haven’t scratched the surface yet when it comes to ‘The Walking Dead.’”

“This vote of confidence from our partners at AMC is gratifying, to say the least,” Erickson said. “We’ve been blessed with amazing writers and a stellar cast – and we can’t wait to build this apocalyptic drama over the next two seasons and hopefully beyond.”

The Walking Dead’s Star-Crossed Lovers

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19200:]]

Love Is Strange

By: Chris “The DOC” Bushley

Warning Spoilers Dead Ahead

With Cupid slinging arrows and plastic wrapped boxes of chocolates piled throughout every store, it’s safe to say that Valentine’s Day is quickly upon us. As you waded through crowds to pick out just the perfect card for your loved ones, you may have missed that the world of comics was full of romance as well. Miss Harley Quinn was paying an awful lot of money to get Bruce Wayne in the boudoir, Silk and Spidey were content to just hold each other after the events of the epic Spider-Verse conclusion and Barry Allen was dealing with some second date “quickness” issues on the CW’s The Flash! But none of the romantic scenario’s can compare to the tale of first love in the pages of The Walking Dead #137.

Throughout the past few months, Robert Kirkman has taken his cast of survivors and launched them two years into the future. Rick Grimes and company have established a world of peace, inner trade and prosperity but nothing has changed more than Carl Grimes and his onset of puberty. He has decided to become his own man and, with the blessing of his father, has taken up an apprenticeship and moved to the Hilltop. There he is reunited with his best friend, Sofia, and they spend almost every waking moment together. But alas, their budding feelings are put on hold as both of them are attacked by two boys, and as Carl runs away, they continue to pummel Sofia. The “knight in shinning eye patch” returns with a shovel and nearly kills the boys before he picks up Sofia and runs for help. Carl’s valiant save of Sofia changes the entire dynamic of the Hilltop however as the boys’ parents call for brutal retribution for the beatings and Maggie, leader of the Hilltop, places Carl in jail to appease the masses. While there, Carl befriends a fellow prisoner, Lydia, a pretty girl that is a member of the Whisperers, a roaming group of people that wear the flesh of others so they can blend in with the walkers. Lydia is there because she was part of a group that killed some of the Hilltop’s patrolmen. As things progress, a friendship blooms between these two imprisoned teens and eventually Carl gives her his father’s hat as a reminder that you can get through anything. Eventually, both Carl and Lydia are released and Carl is solely responsible for Lydia’s actions while she is free. So, like most new friendships, he threatens to kill her if she harms anyone. As the day winds down, the two teens from different lifestyles , settle upon a quiet hilltop on the outskirts of town. Hormones rise to the surface and Lydia tells Carl she likes him and Carl reciprocates. She asks him why he wears glasses with an eyepatch covering one lens, Carl cringes and asks her not to touch the glasses, that it is gross and doesn’t want her to see. Lydia finally steals the glasses and sees Carl’s damaged face and hollow eye socket.
