Stargirl Joins DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

Add another member of the Justice Society Of America to DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow with Stargirl.

Sarah Grey, who has a role in the upcoming Power Rangers movie and is also known for iZombie and Lucifer, will play Stargirl and is said to join Hourman (Patrick J. Adams), Commander Steel (Matthew MacCaull), Vixen (Amaya Jiwe), Dr. Mid-Nite, and Obsidian in the JSA. The latter two have yet to be cast.

Stargirl, in the comics, has a cosmic star belt and Star-Rod that give her various abilities including super strength, martial arts, Star Blasts, invulnerability, flight, cosmic energy projection, able to manipulate energy, create energy constructs, and can create defensive force-fields. Stargirl is also mentally connected to her Star-Rod.

Previous details made mention that the Justice Society wouldn’t be friends – at least at first- with the Legends Of Tomorrow.

“It’s all going to kick off with an epic battle between the Justice Society and the Legends,” EP Marc Guggenheim said. “It’s required that every time there’s more than one superhero in any place at any given time, they have to fight. We’re honoring that rule and that tradition straight out of the gate.”

Caity Lotz let it be known Season 2’s second episode is titled “The Justice Society Of America” as well, and the logo for the JSA was also revealed (see below)

Comic-Con saw it learned that the JSA aren’t the only super team coming together in DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow Season 2 as the series will introduce the Legion of Doom as the villains.

Stephen Amell also teased the big crossover with DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow, Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl.

“DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow” Season 2 returns in October on The CW.

Bryan Cranston Apogizes To David Yost Over Blue Ranger Comments From 7 years Ago

Following up on the story we reported from about a week ago that saw original Blue Ranger David Yost call Bryan Cranston a homophobe, now Cranston has publicly apologized for his remarks from seven years ago.

“To be honest, I don’t remember saying that,” Cranston told NBC News through his publicist. “But I accept that I may have as Mr. Yost suggests, in an attempt at humor. To hear that my impulsive comment hurt someone’s feelings, makes me contrite. I accept responsibility for the thoughtless remark and apologize to Mr. Yost and anyone else who may have been offended.”

Yost has since deleted the tweet, but offered to NBC News that he experienced a very difficult time on the set of The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers dealing with others and his homosexuality and was displeased by Cranston’s remarks in an interview with IGN that took place in 2009.

The Blue Ranger was named after Bryan Cranston who did voice work for the original series, and Cranston has since been cast in the new Power Rangers movie as Zordon.

Cranston is also well known for his support of LGBT rights.

David Yost recently posed in a pic alongside new Blue Ranger RJ Cyler (see below) and has a new movie coming out with The Order.

David Yost Calls Bryan Cranston A Homophobe Because Of Blue Ranger Comments From 7 Years Ago

A new Power Rangers movie is coming out that sees Bryan Cranston playing Zordon.

Actually, Cranston worked on the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers providing voice work.

The character of the Blue Ranger, Billy Cranston, was even named after Bryan Cranston.

Back in 2009, Bryan Cranston spoke with IGN (see below) and talked about working on the series and getting the Blue Ranger named after him. Cranston made a joke that being named after the Blue Ranger was a “problem” because Billy was the “fey” one.

Following the casting news of Cranston as Zordon, David Yost, who played Billy, took to Twitter to blast Cranston’s seven-year-old comments saying it’s “not cool” and called Bryan Cranston a “homophobe” equating “fey” to mean “gay.”

Apparently, David Yost was bullied on the set of the series for being gay in real life, which seems to have fueled his fire.

Bryan Cranston is known for defending LGBT rights (see video below).

And “fey” doesn’t mean “fay” (fairy), it means strange.

I think it’s safe to describe the Blue Ranger as being strange or weak or even nerdy. Not all gay people are like that, just like not all straight people are like that.

From IGN (dated March 5, 2009):

IGN: Bryan, I was looking at your IMDB credits and it’s a long and impressive list, but there’s one I just have to ask about it, because it jumped out at me, which was Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Gilligan: You were on that? How did that suit fit?

Cranston: [Laughs] Well, I was younger then.

One of my jobs as a young actor starting out was voiceover. I also did dubbing. A lot of dubbing and a lot of voiceover. So foreign films would come in and I’d go in. One of the places that did a lot of that was Saban Entertainment. And they would take movies and then cartoons from all over the world and we’d go and do the English dub. And the Power Rangers came in and I did some voices for that. I had already been there for a number of years, just as a freelance guy coming in and coming out. And it paid like $50.00 an hour, which was fantastic. And you’d work two, three hours at least a day. So I had been there for awhile already and then the Power Rangers came in . They actually named one of the Power Rangers after me.

Gilligan: Yeah?!

Cranston: The Blue Power Ranger’s last name is Cranston.

IGN: [Laughs] Wow, that’s pretty funny.

Gilligan: That’s an awesome story!

Cranston: He’s the fey one, that’s the problem.

Bryan Singer Responds To Ivan Ooze X-Men: Apocalypse Complaints

When Fox Studios and Bryan Singer revealed the first look at Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse, the internet erupted with comparisons to the Power Rangers bad guy, Ivan Ooze.

Just check out the image above, and you can see for yourself the look is not too far off; however, it’s learned the reason for the color was due to the image not being of the right color.

Singer told IGN the following about the Apocalypse image as well as the size of the character in the film:

There was an image released on Entertainment Weekly, where the effect hadn’t been put in yet, so everyone was — the effect has a pink light on it, and everyone got lit up pink, so people thought Apocalypse was going to be pink. I was like, ‘No, no, they’re all pink. Take a look. Everyone in the picture is pink. It’s a pink picture.’ They maybe just should have taken the pink out of the picture — I should have taken the pink out of the picture. I’m going to take some blame for that. My fault, not Entertainment Weekly’s. That’s the picture I gave them.

“So then people were like, ‘He’s small.’ I’m like, ‘Okay, I got the same s*** when I cast a six-foot-three actor to play five-foot-four Wolverine. I got the same s*** when Quicksilver’s very sweet, 1970s costume was released on an Empire Magazine cover.’ You know, every time. I could have made him a giant through the whole movie, or some muscle-bound guy who can’t act — I could always do that. But the reality is, among his many powers — and you will see him change size — but among his many powers is his power of persuasion, and it was very important that he’d be able to connect with his horsemen, at their level, and that he’d be played by a guy who can actually act like Oscar, who’s a fantastic actor.

So do Singer’s words regarding the color correction hold true? You betcha. Check out the original image followed by a quick photoshop removal of the color pink we did:

“X-Men: Apocalypse” has a May 27, 2016 release directed by Bryan Singer starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn, Lucas Till, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alexandra Shipp, Josh Helman, Lana Condor & Ben Hardy.

Synopsis:

Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

Making up the team:  Becky G as Trini, the Yellow Ranger; RJ Cyler as Billy, the Blue Ranger; Naomi Scott as Kimberly, the Pink Ranger; Ludi Lin as Zack, the Black Ranger, and Dacre Montgomery as Jason, the Red Ranger.

“From the very beginning, diversity was a very important part of the whole process,” director Dean Israelite told EW. “We switched all of the races around, but we made sure that the essence of each of those characters are who they were in the original show, and this really will be an origin story of those characters.

“We’ve really pushed ourselves to make them feel different from any other superhero costume that’s out there,” Israelite said. “One key that’s different to the Power Ranger suits is that they’re not really suits that people get into. They’re suits that morph onto our kids, so they already have this almost metaphysical quality to them.”

Elizabeth Banks is playing the villain, Rita Repulsa.

“It’s very exciting that we got [Banks], and I think what she loves is the opportunity to really embrace the insanity and deliciousness of Rita Repulsa in terms of how weird and wonderful that character was, and really dive into and consume that character,” Israelite said. “You should always be off-balance when you’re watching her. Is she insane? Is she totally calculated? Does she know what she’s doing? Elizabeth can toe that line really well.”
