James Gunn Doesn’t Like Guardians of the Galaxy Animated Series Soundtrack

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22376:]]

Marvel TV under Jeph Loeb and Stephen Wacker (both of whom were in part responsible for the cancellation of DnA’s Marvel Cosmic that inspired the near-billion dollar Marvel movie) recently launched a Guardians of the Galaxy animated series on Disney XD.

The cartoon is, basically, a rather lame attempt to capitalize on the success of Marvel Studios’s Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and it has even ripped off James Gunn’s idea for a sound track.

As many fans know, Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movie soundtrack (Awesome Mix Vol. 1) topped the music charts when it was released, and Gunn even named the sequel to the movie after the sequel to the soundtrack (“Vol. 2”).

Marvel TV’s soundtrack for the series is dubbed “Cosmic Mix Vol. 1” and contains twelve soundtracks, but Gunn isn’t a fan.

In a live video QnA on Facebook, Gunn let it be known he hasn’t watched the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series and the soundtrack doesn’t exactly excite him.

“I have not seen it,” Gunn responded to questioning. “I think it’s interesting. I hope it’s good. I don’t like the sound track too much. I don’t like it, but other than that it seems really good.”

And just how bad is the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series? Well, the Guardians actually fly out of a space slug’s butt. Need we say more?

The producers on the animated series alo tried to isninuate that it was connected to the movie, but Gunn shot that down as well.

Recent reports also state Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige parted ways with Marvel TV.

Dave Bautista Wants A New Look For Drax In Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (Video)

While promoting the James Bond Spectre film, Dave Bautista talks about the potential look of Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Bautista offers Drax “might look a little different” as he has told Marvel he wouldn’t mind changing up the tatoos or even growing a beard.

Drax, in the comics, has seen a couple of different variations ranging from the original design to the Annihilation version used in the movie.

Bautista also offers his Drax would crush fellow WWE star Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam over at DC, and he recently said he is praying for a crossover with the Avengers.

Check out the above video for more.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” lands May 5, 2017.

Dave Bautista Wants Drax In The Avengers

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22324:]]

With Thanos set to take on the Avengers in Infinity War, Marvel’s street-level heroes are probably going to need some Marvel Cosmic assistance to handle the Mad Titan.

Dave Bautista, who previously let it be known he hopes his Guardians of the Galaxy team collides with the Avengers at some point, now says more of the same in that he hopes they do appear together on the big screen.

“Yeah, come on, man. Hell yeah. Yeah, of course I would,” Bautista tells Screen Rant in the following video while promoting his latest movie, the James Bond Spectre film. “At the core of me is the biggest geek you’ve ever met. I’m a superhero fan first and foremost, and…of course, man, I want that to happen. It’s rumors right now, but, you know, I pray every day…and night, and afternoon, and after you walk out the door I’ll go pray and say, ‘Please let Drax be in ‘The Avengers.’ [Laughter] Yeah, I hope it’ll happen.”

It’s presently unknown whether or not any of the Guardians of the Galaxy will appear in Infinity War or side-by-side the Avengers, and even James Gunn said a while back that the Guardians teaming with the Avengers hasn’t been decided, but if we had to guess, we would say it’s probably a good bet at least two members of the Guardians will appear with the Avengers down the road. There’s also the fact that Thanos and Drax are mortal enemies in the comics, which adds fuel to the fire…

Guardians of Infinity Character Designs & New Details Revealed

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21876:]]

Following the news of the new upcoming Guardians of Infinity ongoing that pairs Dan Abnett with Carlo Barberi, Marvel.com has released character designs for the Guardians 1000 members as well as an interview with the creators.

Fans of the previous Marvel Cosmic titles should be excited for Guardians of Infinity as no one can write the Guardians better than Abnett.

I think that’s why I’ve always loved the cosmic side of Marvel: placing super heroes in an [sci-fi] context means that it’s less about costumes and secret identities and integrating super hero roles into a ‘real world.’  These are characters [that] look and behave the way they do because of non-terrestrial technology, culture, and abilities. We get a sense of the whole universe, and the possibilities are vast and ingenious. Take Rocket, as an example. On Earth, he’d be a curiosity, a goofy “fun” character. Out in the universe, he’s non-human adventurer that we don’t have to qualify or excuse. We can just get on with enjoying his misadventures.

Abnett says obviously time travel will be used to connect the teams, but hints it won’t be the same old same old.

The idea I was playing with was to mix up the characters from the two existing eras of Guardians: Rocket’s crew from “now” and Vance Astro’s team of freedom fighters from the year 3000.  That’s inevitably going to involve time travel, at the very least, as a mechanism to bring them together. But I thought of a way of using cross-time contact as part of the story itself without it being the usual “travel in time, change the future/past” cliché.

Abnett also describes the differences between the three teams.

I also really want to differentiate, not just between characters, but between team philosophies. The ‘now’ GOTG are very much rogues and misfits, but the Guardians 3000 are much more heroic—they’re freedom fighters, after all. It’s like mixing a gang of charming crooks with a dedicated squad of soldiers. Then the Guardians 1000—well, they are explorers. They are noble. They are optimistic and are all about embracing the wonder of the Universe. The three teams may have the same name, but they couldn’t be more different. Streams are going to be crossed, is what I’m saying.

Abnett offers the series is going to be a great ride and more.

Great characters; really great art from Carlo; plus an opportunity to leap headlong into the wonder of the broader Marvel Universe. If you’re shy of all things cosmic, you don’t know if it’s your thing, or if you’re fascinated by that side of the Marvel Universe but don’t know your Galadorans from your Spartax, the answer is right here. Jump on board. We’ll explain everything you need to know on the way. No prior experience needed.

But hold on tight, because Rocket’s driving, and space can get crazy at this time of day.

“Guardians of Infinity” hits in December.

IN THE INFINITE EXPANSE OF TIME AND SPACE IS THERE ROOM FOR MORE GUARDIANS? YOU BET THERE IS!

Defending the galaxy is a good gig, but Drax isn’t thrilled with the combat hours (not enough of them) and Rocket isn’t thrilled with the compensation (not enough of it). They’re off on an adventure to supplement both, and Groot is happy to come along. But instead of the perks they want, they’re about to get more trouble than they can handle. Good thing the Guardians 3000 are on hand to help! But what about…THE GUARDIANS 1000??!!

Also in this issue, Latour and Cheung tell a one-off story of Ben Grimm and Rocket Raccoon, stuck on a planet where culture is based on Earth-style professional wrestling…but the stakes are life and death! THIS AIN’T KAYFABE, BROTHER!

Josh Brolin Says We’ll See Thanos Soon

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22110:]]

Over the weekend, Josh Brolin appeared at the Toronto Film Festival to debut his latest movie, Everest, where he also managed to talk Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Last we saw from Thanos was in the mid-credit scene for The Avengers: Age Of Ultron (watch below) where the Mad Titan decided if things had to be done right, he would have to do it himself. Thanos is also featured in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron Blu-Ray as part of the Infinity War featurette (watch that below, too).

It’s exactly unknown when we’ll see Thanos next, but it could be prior to The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 that is due out in 2018 as Brolin says we might see Thanos soon.

“I think it’s going to be fairly soon, and I know it’s going to be good,” Brolin told Coming Soon. “I’m very, very pleased about that whole trajectory and all the possibilities. I’ve talked to Kevin Feige about it and Louis D’Esposito. It’s good. It’s good.”

Brolin goes on to comment on the fact that portraying Thanos is different than anything he has ever done, which he is happy about.

“I was in England doing Everest [while] making that decision, and strangely enough, I’m always surprised by what you decide to do right away, what you say no to and all that, and especially in hindsight, Thanos was almost immediate,” Brolin said.

Brolin also lets it be known that what helped in his decision to take the role was a comic (assumed to be Infinity Gauntlet) that Marvel had sent over.

“I looked through a book that they had sent me. I was like ‘God, this is amazing.'” Brolin said.

The interviewer then remarked that Jim Starlin is great and one of the best with Brolin agreeing.

“Truly.”

Regarding Brolin mentioning that we’ll see Thanos soon, it’s possible Thanos could appear in Doctor Strange, which is due out November 2016 or maybe even Thor 3 the following November in 2017.

Update: Brolin talks more about Thanos as well as Batman (video).

James Gunn Says No To Nova For Guardians of the Galaxy 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22106:]]

Well, boo on you, James Gunn. Again.

For the second movie in a row, James Gunn will not be including the fan-favorite Human Rocket, Richard Rider Nova.

Nova was a part of the original Guardians of the Galaxy script written by Nicole Perlman; however, when Gunn came on board and changed things, out went Rider.

Gunn’s reasoning is that he wants to only use Star-Lord as the only Guardians of the Galaxy member from Earth. Of course, our arguement is that Star-Lord isn’t really all that relatable as an Earthling as he’s half alien and was taken from Earth at a young age.

A fan asked Gunn on Twitter if there was a shot at seeing Nova as a new member, but Gunn replied: “They will get a new team member such as someone who is not Nova.”

On the bright side, at least we get to look forward to more dancing in the sequel…

“Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2” has a May 5, 2017 release.

James Gunn Can’t Use Alien Race In Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Because Of Female Body Part

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22083:]]

James Gunn is currently spearheading the Marvel Cosmic Universe by helming the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

As was noted with the first film, Gunn had to switch out the Badoon for the Sakaarans due to Fox Studios owning the rights to the Badoon.

Now Gunn comments about character rights for Guardians of the Galaxy 2, which sees a bit of humor for the outcome.

Gunn mentioned he wanted to include the Sneepers in the background of a scene, mentioning he had to get the okay from Marvel Legal first; however, Marvel Legal gave the Sneepers a thumbs down. It turns out the reason is not due to another studio owning the rights, but the translation of “Sneepers” into Icelandic.

Another character James Gunn previously let be known that Marvel doesn’t have the rights to is Kang The Conqueror.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” hits May 5, 2017.

Watch: Karen Gillan Talks Nebula and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 At Fan Expo Canada

The good news is that Gillan will be back for the sequel.

Interestingly enough, Karen Gillan mentions it’s possible Nebula might not be bald this time around for Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

No Chance For Hulk or Captain Marvel In Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Says James Gunn

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21993:]]

Over a year ago saw it rumored that at the end of The Avengers 2, the Hulk would be stuck in a pre-programmed Quinjet jettisoning the Green Goliath off to space where the Hulk would meet up with the Guardians in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Gunn previously shot down the Hulk Guardians of the Galaxy 2 rumor, and now seeing how it’s learned the Hulk’s story will not be told in Captain America: Civil War, speculation has again started up that the Hulk would be appearing in Gunn’s sequel.

However, Gunn once again shoots down any notion of the Hulk appearing.

“I will comment on it now (as I’ve done before) – there is zero chance you will see Hulk in GotGVol2,” Gunn offered on Twitter.

Gunn continued with mention that Captain Marvel won’t be featured in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 as well.

“For the time being, it’s important to me that Quill is the sole human (earthling) character,” Gunn replied to questioning about Captain Marvel making her MCU debut in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Gunn also offered he doesn’t want a lot of new characters in GoTG2 because he would like to focus on the characters already from the first movie.

“Not too many, that’s for sure!” Gunn responded in regards to how many new characters he would like to take on in Guardians 2. “I want all of our characters to get MORE personal time than they did in the 1st film.”

Regarding Gunn’s statement about Star-Lord being the sole human, which he has stated before, the line of reasoning stirs contention amongst the Cosmic fans as many Marvel Cosmic fans want to see Richard Rider Nova a part of the Guardians movies (Gunn cut Nova from an earlier script), and Star-Lord could easily be argued as not being a relatable human as, for one, he’s half alien, and secondly, in Gunn’s movie, Star-Lord was abducted at a young age and grew up in space. Hopefully a different director will want to tackle Richard Rider Nova’s story at some point.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” has a May 5, 2017 release.

Bendis, Quesada & Creative Committee Booted From Marvel Studios

I’m lovin’ Kevin Feige more and more…

It was recently reported by THR that Kevin Feige had moved Marvel Studios away from the creative control of Marvel CEO billionaire Ike Perlmutter, who has been said to be responsible for a host of problems.

Now it’s being said Feige has apparently gotten rid of the Marvel Creative Committee that was made up of Marvel Comics executives and writers such as comic scribe Brian Michael Bendis, Dan Buckley, publisher of Marvel Comics, and Joe Quesada, former editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics and the current Chief Creative Officer of Marvel.

According to BirthMoviesDeath, similar to Perlmutter, the Creative Committee caused frustration amongst the Marvel movies with an example given of Edgar Wright and Ant-Man. It’s noted the Committee was often late with their suggestions, with it said filmmakers considered them to be a pain to deal with.

It’s also stated the Marvel Committee may continue on with Marvel TV, which stays under Perlmutter (as does the comics, unfortunately), with it also suggested the Committee may be completely finished altogether. If indeed the Committee does stay with Marvel TV, this further exemplifies my thoughts that Feige wants to move Marvel Studios away from the lackluster attempts from Marvel TV and Jeph Loeb, which includes the animated series and ABC shows (Netflix series are under Marvel TV as well, but honestly I wasn’t impressed with Daredevil at all, and up next is Bendis’ Jessica Jones).

The report also makes mention following Captain America: Civil War and most likely Doctor Strange, Marvel’s Phase 3 should be off to smooth sailing as Perlmutter and the Marvel Creative Committee will not be involved. It’s even possible we may finally get more Black Widow merchandise, as it’s noted (and known through leaked e-mails) that Perlmutter was behind not supporting female characters.

I’ll also add in Brian Bendis took over the Guardians of the Galaxy comic book from Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning when news of the movie getting green lit became known. Marvel Comics fired Abnett and Lanning off of the book when they knew the movie was getting made. I’ve even been told by somebody who worked at Marvel that Bendis didn’t like all the fan attention DnA were getting from their Cosmic line. Kudos to Kevin Feige and James Gunn for crediting DnA for inspiring the billion dollar Disney franchise. We also can’t forget that Jeph Loeb had a hand in cancelling DnA’s Marvel Cosmic line (as well as Axel Alonso, Tom Brevoort and Stephen Wacker) as the 2007 Richard Rider Nova series was cancelled with Loeb launching a new character under the name, which has consistently sold less than the Abnett and Lanning version.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Stars Filming February 2016

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21891:]]

James Gunn has let it be known that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will start filming next February.

Gunn answered a fan’s question on Facebook about when filming starts, but stated he doesn’t known a specific date.

“In February. Not sure of the actual date,” Gunn offered.

James Gunn also recently confirmed Vin Diesel will be back as the voice of Groot.

No specific plot details are known about the sequel, but Gunn has hinted Star-Lord’s origins and father will be explored as well as the movie may take a slighly more serious approach.

Gunn also previously said there will be less characters in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 than the first “because everything is just getting too sprawling and too crazy for me in these superhero comic book movies.”

Gunn did confirm they will be introducing a new character.

“There’s just too many characters so you can’t concentrate on one and really get to know that character, and I really want to get to know the characters that we know better, and yeah, we will be introducing a new character,” Gunn said.

In addition to the five core members of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Yondu, Nebula and Kraglin have been said to be returning as well.

Maybe Gunn can stick Richard Rider Nova, that he cut from the first movie, somewhere, too? (Help us, Obi Gunn. You’re our only hope).

“Guardians of the Galaxy” Vol. 2 hits May 5, 2017.

Marvel Announces Guardians of Infinity With Dan Abnett

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21876:]]

Following the 2008 Guardians of the Galaxy comic that inspired the billion dollar Disney franchise, Guardians 3000 and the recent Secret Wars: Korvac Saga, Dan Abnett returns for the new ongoing Guardians of Infinity in December.

Per the solicit below, we see the team will consist of the present day Guardians including Drax, Groot and Rocket Raccoon, as well as Abnett’s Guardians 3000 team, and what sounds like possibly some of the original Guardians.

Vin Diesel Confirmed For Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Err 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21861:]]

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 isn’t even in the cards, and we already get confirmation that Vin Diesel will be back as Groot?!

That’s exactly what James Gunn confirmed on Facebook, but quickly caught himself and stated it’s for the sequel.

A fan asked Gunn: “Will Vin Diesel be back in GOTG3?”

Gunn replied, “Yes.”

Another fan noticed the question and inquired about Gunn confirming Vin Diesel for Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

Gunn replied back, “No – he means 2 and that’s what I was responding to. Stop it.” Gunn also further commented: “Believe me I have to be careful because it will be picked up as my confirming 3.”

While we do believe Gunn was referring to Vin Diesel reprising as Groot for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (sorta), a few months ago Gunn did tease Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

“I knew for a long time what the story of the second one was gonna be,” Gunn said, before teasing, “And the third one!”

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” has a May 5, 2017 release.

Vin Diesel brought “I Am Groot” to life not only for English audiences, but for fans around the globe. Check out behind-the-scenes footage of Vin Diesel recording Groot in foreign languages for Guardians of the Galaxy:
