Cobie Smulders, known for playing Agent Maria Hill in the Marvel movies, poses topless in the latest issue of Women’s Health magazine where the actress reveals she had a bout with cancer a few years ago.
Smulders, age 33, reveals she had ovarian cancer when she was 25 while on How I Met Your Mother.
“I had tumors on both ovaries,” Smulders said. “And the cancer had spread into my lymph nodes and surrounding tissues.”
Smulders went through multiple surgeries to remove the cancer over a two-year period, according to the article.
“I don’t think I’ll ever feel like I’m cancer-free,”Smulders offered. “Now that I’m five years out, I’m trying to think of it as a positive thing and what can I learn from it. And if I can create more awareness, I’ll do it.”
Smulder continues by discussing what she feels is the meaning of “healthy.”
“I always associate ‘healthy’ with ‘healthy eating,” she said. “I’m big into ‘you are what you eat’ and if you’re taking care of yourself in that respect, then you’re going to feel good. Look good, feel good.”
Regarding the topless pics, Smulders explains her reason behind doing it is: “because it’s a women’s magazine, I feel like being topless is more about being confident and about being happy with your body rather than trying to excite somebody else. That’s what this cover was more about.”
Cobie Smulders can next be seen in “The Avengers: Age Of Ultron” on May 1st, and will be reprising as Maria Hill for an upcoming episode of “Agents Of SHIELD.”
