Michael Biehn Talks Return Of Newt In Neill Blomkamp’s Alien

Prior to Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant, a while back saw director Neill Blomkamp take to Instagram to reveal concept art for a new Alien movie he has been working on.

However, once Ridley Scott decided to do the sequel to Prometheus, Blomkamp’s Alien movie got placed on the backburner. The good news is that it’s still suppose to happen, which will see Sigourney Weaver returning to the role of Ripley as well as Michael Biehn returning as Hicks.

Now in a recent interview with Forbes, Michael Biehn talks the return of Newt, who Blomkamp first revealed in conept art for “Alien Day,” and also the direction he thinks the franchise will take.

“[Neill] tweeted out some pictures of me, he said he’s going take the third and fourth film and act like they never happened and things blew up,” said Biehn. “It looked like it was all go and then Ridley Scott decided that he was going to do a second and third film in the Prometheus series, but Sigourney says they are still doing their project. I think it would be very embarrassing to Fox if they don’t give Sigourney the movie that she really wants to go out on. I don’t know when it’s going to happen but I know it’s going to happen and I know I’m going to be in it and there’s going to be a new Newt, she’s going to be about 26 or 27 and looks a lot like Jennifer Lawrence to me but I don’t know. Maybe there’ll be a passing of whatever and then the franchise can move on so they can make more money because that’s what it’s all about.”

Alien: Covenant Will Be Mostly Practical Effects

Ridley Scott is going as real as it gets for Alien: Covenant as it’s learned the sequel to Prometheus will feature mostly practical effects.

A new set video shows off the practical effects (watch below), and Danny McBride fills in Rolling Stone about the effects as well.

I’m the pilot of the spaceship Covenant, which is a colonization ship, searching for a planet where we might start life anew. I run the ship.

I didn’t know if it would be all green screen, but most of the stuff is practical effects: when you’re running from an alien it’s really a dude in an alien suit coming after you! The sets are incredible and you’re in them: We go through some inclement weather at one point on the spaceship and this whole gigantic set is on a gimbal, shaking up and down. You don’t have to use your imagination.

“Alien: Covenant” has an August 4, 2017 also starring Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz and Callie Hernandez.

Synopsis:

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Watch: Everything Wrong With Alien

CinemaSins is back at it, this time revealing everything wrong with Ridley Scott’s 1979 Alien movie.

Alien kicked off the franchise starring Sigourney Weaver and brought in $104,931,801 worldwide.

While that amount may sound low compared to today’s standards, bear in mind Alien only had a budget of around $11 milllion.

Ridley Scott continues the Alien franchise with Alien: Covenant, which is out in 2017.

Dark Horse Announces Predator vs. Judge Dredd vs. Aliens

New “Predator vs. Judge Dredd vs. Aliens” Unleashes Summer 2016

Dark Horse, IDW, and 2000 AD team up for galactic mayhem!

Announced today at Emerald City Comicon, three of the universe’s most feared figures cross paths this summer in the ultimate science-fiction crossover: Predator vs. Judge Dredd vs. Aliens!

Written by New York Times best-selling and Eisner Award–winning author John Layman (Chew, Mars Attacks: Occupation) with stunning interior artwork by Chris Mooneyham (Five Ghosts, Predator: Fire and Stone) and iconic covers by Eisner Award winner Glenn Fabry, this series will be the wild ride of the summer for readers everywhere!

Predator vs. Judge Dredd vs. Aliens is just the sort of concept that would have Teenage John Layman wetting his pants with excitement…just at the possibility of reading it. Here, many, many years later, Old Man Layman is writing it, and it’s still every bit as thrilling,” remarked writer John Layman.

The crossover pits the legendary lawman Judge Dredd against the universe’s supreme hunters, the Predators, as they both try to survive an onslaught by the galaxy’s ultimate killing machines, the Aliens!

Judge Dredd and Judge Anderson have tracked a criminal cult across the Cursed Earth and into the Alabama morass, where a mad genetic scientist with destructive designs has acquired the best genes that evolution has to offer—a xenomorph skull!

A Predator, attracted to the warm climate and superior prey, has declared hunting season as he calls for backup. All paths will cross in a mind-blowing sci-fi showdown with the fate of the Earth at stake!

“This really is a dream-come-true project for me. I got to work on Aliens once before—a super cool experience, and one that was always on my creative bucket list. Dredd’s been on the bucket list as well, and you throw Predator into the mix, and it’s a trifecta of awesome. I’m loving every minute of this project so far,” added Layman.

Predator vs. Judge Dredd vs. Aliens #1 (of 4) is in stores July 27, 2016. Preorder your copy today at your local favorite comic shop.

Fox Pulls Gambit From Release Date Schedule; Predator, Alien: Covenant Dates Announced

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22939:]]

It’s being reported that Fox has pulled Gambit from its release date schedule, and that Gambit presently has no new release date.

Gambit was originally set for an October 7th release of this year and was scheduled to begin filming next month.

Fox has also scheduled two new untitled Fox/Marvel movies for an October 6, 2017 release and a January 12, 2018 release, respectively.

It’s possible Gambit could take one of those dates.

Another possibility is that Deadpool 2 could be released on one of those dates — as the movie is a huge success, Fox may want to get a sequel out as quickly as possible.

The newly announced Predator movie has also been given a March 2, 2018 release, and Fox has given Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant a new release date of August 4, 2017.

Fox’s schedule also includes X-Men: Apocalypse on May 27, 2016, and the untitled Wolverine movie on March 3, 2017.

Ridley Scott Says Hard R-Rating For Alien: Covenant

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23814:]]

At the Golden Globes, Ridley Scott lets it be known he wants Alien: Covenant to have a hard R-rating.

In a Q&A with the press (see video below), following winning two awards for The Martian, Scott is asked how he feels about the horror and science-fiction fans looking forward to his movies.

“That’s why I’m doing it, dude. I think I am going to do pretty hard R,” Scott said.

The director the went on to recall editing Alien – realizing just how much horror was in the movie, especially with the chestbuster scene – and offers he wants to do something “much worse” for Alien: Coventant.

“I always remember walking down the edge in Saint Louis when we were previewing [Alien],” Scott recalls. “I couldn’t sit through the film one more time. I walked down the edge into the kitchen scene when John Hurt started to bring up his breakfast. That moment, I realized how pretty scary the film was… I felt a sense of responsibility that I had gone too far because it was extreme. I’m going to try and do that again this year, but much worse.”

Scott also previously offered the film with have “all the Aliens.”

Alien: Covenant has an October 6, 2017 release starring Michael Fassbender.

Syopsis:

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Alien: Covenant Will Have All The Aliens Says Ridley Scott

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23276:]]

With the recent change in title, it should come as no surprise that the sequel to Prometheus is actually more an “Alien” film than the latter, and now Ridley Scott offers further details.

Speaking with The Wrap, Ridley Scott confirms it’s more Alien and also offers that Alien: Covenant will feature the Xenomorphs fans have come to know from the original movies.

Via The Wrap:

Yeah. Well, really it’s “Alien.” They’re going to go to the planet where the engineers came from, and come across the evolving creature that they had made. Why did they make it? Why would they make such a terrifying beast? It felt bio-mechanoid, it felt like a weapon. And so the movie will explain that, and reintroduce the alien back into it.

There was always this discussion: Is Alien, the character, the beast, played out or not? We’ll have them all: egg, face-hugger, chest-burster, then the big boy. I think maybe we can go another round or two.

Alien: Covenant has an October 6, 2017 release starring Michael Fassbender.

Dark Horse Announces Aliens: Defiance Ongoing Series At NYCC

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22434:]]

As announced on the Dark Horse: CLASSIFIED! panel at New York Comic Con, writer Brian Wood (The Massive, Rebels) and artist Tristan Jones (Mad Max: Fury Road, TMNT) will take on the xenomorphs just in time to celebrate the anniversary of Aliens with a new ongoing series—Aliens: Defiance!

Alien was groundbreaking when it first debuted, and has only grown in relevance and pop culture legend since,” remarked Wood. “Thirty-seven years is an impressive amount of time for any entertainment property to thrive, much less still top mainstream headlines and fuel speculation like it does. It’s an honor to be invited to add to that legend.”

In space, no one can hear you scream . . . Aliens: Defiance follows struggling Colonial Marine rookie Zula Hendricks as she goes AWOL to protect Earth from an unknown alien species.

“Few films are as timelessly terrifying and the fact that it continues to grip audiences and affect them beyond any of its successors and imitators (of which there are plenty) is the strongest testament to how truly transcendent everything that went into, and came out of, Alien is,” added Jones. “Being asked to be a part of something so defining, and so instrumental to the creative development of not just me, but so many, many others, is a lifelong dream come true.”

Aliens: Defiance #1 (of 12) is in stores April 27, 2016. Preorder your copy today at your local comic shop!

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19702:]]

It’s confirmed Michael Biehn will be reprising as Hicks for the new Neill Blomkamp Alien film.

The actor confirmed the news on Instagram when responding to a fan’s question about attending the Sheffield Comic-Con.

thank you very much for the support, and I’m now looking at scheduling conflicts with the Sheffield Comic Con, due to my contract for Aliens to begin filming during then, but I hope I can make it out to UK and it’s famous ‘Pubs’.

In addition to Biehn, Sigourney Weaver will return as well.

Previously released concept art featured both Michael Biehn and Sigourney Weaver, which helped to get the movie greenlit by Fox.

No specific plot details have been made known, but Blomkamp has stated his new Alien movie will be the “genetic sibling of Aliens,” and at the same time, won’t undo the events from the two previous Alien movies.

The untitled Alien movie is due for release in 2017.

Meet Sally. Sally meet Michael. Michael meet Instagram! I was approached by Sally, asked for a photo (obviously), whilst browsing down the streets doing the old “I used to be famous!” routine. She asked me if I had Instagram and Twitter and if I was active on them with information regarding #alien because she is not very trusting to what the internet says. She then said the best way to get “the old timey’s” such as herself to notice me was to get you current amazing 15 loyal followers to start talking about me, and in return, she presented me with the idea of doing a Question and Answer on The 1st of April! So get chatting with your fellow Instagram buddies or however this social presentation works! And get them checking out my Instagram page and pitch in on the Question and Answer on The 1st of April regarding to any project, any experience or any random personal fact you want to ask me about! Thanks! #followhicks

Neill Blomkamp Says New Alien Won’t Undo Alien 3 Or Resurrection

Neill Blomkamp is developing a new Alien film which will star Sigourney Weaver.

Blomkamp in a recent interview stated that his new Alien movie would be “the genetic sibling of Aliens” and then said “so it’s Alien, Aliens, this movie.”

The statement led some to believe that Blomkamp’s Alien would be ignoring or rewriting the third and fourth Alien movies.

However, now Blomkamp has cleared things up.

“My favorites are the first two movies,” Blomkamp said in the above interview. “So I want to make a film that’s connected to Alien and Aliens. That’s my goal. I’m not trying to undo Alien 3 or Alien: Resurrection, I just want it to be connected to Alien one and two.”

Sigourney Weaver & Neill Blomkamp Talk Alien (Video)

Sigourney Weaver stars in Neill Blomkamp’s upcoming Chappie movie where right from the get-go the two started talking about additional Alien movies.

Blomkamp then released concept art, and Fox has greenlit the movie.

Now both Sigourney Weaver and Blomkamp talk about the potential Alien movie above.

Worth a mention is that Blomkomp says he wants the movie to follow Alien and Aliens, with no mention of Alien 3 or Alien Resurrection (which wouldn’t be all that bad).

“I would love to take Ripley out of orbiting around in space and give a proper finish to what was such an excellent story,” Sigourney Weaver said. “So when somebody like Neill Blomkamp suddenly said, ‘Well, I’m interested in finishing the story,” I thought, ‘My little ears perked up.’

“I want this film to feel like literally it’s the genetic sibling of Aliens,” Blomkamp added. “So it’s Alien, Aliens, this movie.”

“We started chatting on the set of Chappie almost right away about his love for these movies,” Weaver said with a laugh. “Then he started to send me the artwork over the last year and a lot of story ideas.”

“It’s a Freudian kind of nightmare,” Blomkamp continued. “That element to me is what is so appealing. To try and put the audience at the edge of their seat the whole time in a traditional monster stalking you dark corridor way. I love that. When you mix in all the design elements and the life cycle of the Alien, you know it’s just a power keg of creativity for me.”

“I’m delighted he is interested in doing this,” Weaver said. “I think it’s a great series. It deserves a proper ending. I know the fans would love that. So I hope it works out.”
