Stargate Cinematic Universe In Development

About a year-and-a-half ago saw word that Stargate was getting the reboot treatment, and now it’s learned a Stargate cinematic universe is currently in active development with original creators Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin back on board.

The Stargate reboot will be just that and won’t have anything to do with the previous film or spin-off series.

“It’s not a story that can take place 20 years later,” Devlin said, referencing Independence Day: Resurgence which hits this week. “So the only way to really tell that [Stargate] trilogy is to go back from the beginning and start the story all over again.”

As noted, Devlin and Emmerich originally intended Stargate to be a trilogy, but due to unfortunate circumstances the rights were taken away.

“It was taken away from us, and it’s tough to have your children raised by other parents, even if they do a very good job. … For us, it’s not putting down what has been done. It’s to let us finish telling our story,” Devlin told Variety.

Though Roland Emmerich isn’t a big fan of super hero and Marvel movies, it’s mentioned the Stargate reboot will be something similar to what Marvel has done and possibly become a Stargate cinematic universe with spinoffs.

“Today, studios tend to not think of movies as trilogies or sequels (but) as cinematic universes,” Devlin said. “So as we’ve been developing it, we found all these avenues that allow it to expand. The foundation is exactly the same as what we wanted to do, but now the possibilities are much wider.”

The Stargate reboot is underway from MGM and Warner Bros.

The original Stargate was released in 1994 starring Kurt Russell and James Spader and grossed close to $200,000 worldwide.

Stargate SG-1 Returns! To Gaming

This should excite Stargate SG-1 fans, somewhat I suppose, as the series sorta returns in the form of a new video game.

MGM and Arkalis Interactive released the following teaser (via IGN) for Stargate SG-1: Unleashed, described as a new adventure game being released on tablets in March.

It’s said that Stargate SG-1: Unleashed will feature an all-new story.

The following is not gameplay footage, but features Carter, O’Neil,Teal’c and Dr. Jackson.

Looks cool.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012): Stargate’s Christopher Judge Battles Joseph Gordon-Levitt

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:1160:]]We know (or do we?!) that Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays the character of Gotham City Police Officer John Blake in The Dark Knight Rises.

What we don’t know is who the character Christopher Judge, of Stargate fame, will play.

Judge confirmed last July that he was cast in The Dark Knight Rises, and so far, we haven’t heard nor seen of him since.

That’s because there is a lot of secrecy surrounding the character, so much so, that Judge wouldn’t – or couldn’t – talk about it in a recent appearance on the David Boze radio show.

“I can talk more about the experience than the role,” Judge offered with a laugh. “I was saying this earlier, it was one of the most bizarre experience[s]. Not the being on set or not dealing with anyone, but the secrecy surrounding it. I’ve never really dealt with a project of that scale.”

What Judge did mention, which is of interest to Batman fans, was training a week for a fight sequence with Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

“In this role we rehearsed for a week for one fight scene. I mean, that was, you know it’s cool, but it’s not that long,” Judge said.

“Little did I know that Joe would not be pulling his punches when we we do—,” Judge said with a laughter.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:1161:]]Judge also spoke on the physicality required by director Christopher Nolan and on working with Christian Bale, which you can listen to in the player below.

Sorry Stargate fans, but in regards to a third movie, Judge offered up that one almost came through the wormhole, but to do MGM’s financial problems, Stargate never made it home.

And just who might Judge be playing in The Dark Knight Rises? The current thought on the net is — Killer Croc! And the voice fits.

The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20th, 2012 and is directed by Christopher Nolan starring Christian Bale as Batman, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, Michael Cain as Alfred, Juno Temple and Josh Pence as a young Ra’s al Ghul.
