Independence Day: Resurgence Concept Art Revealed

Independence Day: Resurgence Title Teaser

Following yesterday’s Indepedence Day: Resurgence title reveal, now Fox has released a piece of concept art.

Via Empire:

Like every Irwin Allen film all at once, this concept art shows the military piloting an alien craft through what was once a city but now looks a lot more like the third act of Age Of Ultron writ large. “The world is totally rebuilt,” expands the director in the new issue of Empire. “They had alien technology and anti-gravity, so they could rebuild quite fast. Imagine what we would do with alien technology and who would have it.”

Synopsis:

It was an ordinary summer day. But then, without warning, something very extraordinary happened: Enormous shadows fell across the land. Strange atmospheric phenomena, ominous and mesmerizing, surfaced around the globe. All eyes turned upward.

The question of whether we’re alone in the universe was finally answered. And, in a matter of minutes, the lives of every person across the globe were forever changed.

With the fate of our planet at stake, the Fourth of July took on an entirely new meaning. No longer was it solely an American holiday. It would be known as the day the entire world fought back. The day we did not go gentle into the good night … The day all of us on planet Earth celebrated ourIndependence Day.

From director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin, 1996’s Independence Day shattered opening weekend and total box office records, becoming the year’s top-grossing film. It also became the first movie in history to gross over $500m internationally.

But Independence Day was just the beginning. We always knew they were coming back. After that film redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter in the Independence Day universe delivers a global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19483:]]

Independence Day 2 has cast Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth and Jesse Usher in roles for the sequel that follows the original from twenty years ago.

Goldblum will return as David Levinson; Usher will be playing Dylan Hiller, the son of Will Smith’s Captain Steven Hiller; Hemsworth is rumored to be playing the son-in-law of Bill Pullman’s President Whitmore.

Director Roland Emmerich shared the news on Facebook.

Excited to officially announce that Jessie Usher will be joining the cast for the sequel of Independence Day!

Trivia: My producing partner Harald Kloser noticed Jessie in between sets of pushups at the gym and gave him an audition. As they say, the rest is history!

Potential plot details that Emmerich previously talked about mentioned the aliens returning, but Earth better prepared as they have used the alien technology to their advantage.

Independence Day 2 Gets 2016 Release Date

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:12272:]]

Fox has updated the release date for Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day 2 to July 1, 2016 – a full year following the initial July 3, 2015 release.

Earlier, Fox announced later release dates for Fantastic Four, Secret Service and Assassin’s Creed as well.

The full year delay for Independence Day 2 at least gives Emmerich more time to work on the movie. As it stands, there has been a bit of back and forth regarding rumors and speculation surrounding the involvement of Will Smith. Back in September, Emmerich let it be known talks with Smith were ongoing and most recently said two scripts for Independence Day 2 were created – one with Will Smith and one without.

The plot for Independence Day 2 has been described as the aliens returning 20 years later, but mankind now has utilized their technology.

[page_title]

No Will Smith For Independence Day 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:8925:]]With Independence Day 2 getting a recently announced July 3, 2015 release, it has also become known that the original film’s star, Will Smith, will not be back for the sequel.

Director Roland Emmerich stated having Will Smith would be too expensive for “ID Forever Part 1,” as well as too big of a name, but we do learn there will be some new and returning characters.

“Will Smith can not come back because he’s too expensive, but he’d also be too much of a marquee name,” Emmerich told the NY Daily News. “It would be too much. We have like maybe half of the people that you know would know from the first film (in the script) and the other half people who are new.”

No plot details are known about Independence Day 2, but Emmerich offered that it’s not a total reboot, but something unusual.

Currently, it’s rumored the movie takes place 20 years after Independence Day with the aliens returning through a worm hole; however, humanity may be better armed this time as they have adapted the alien technology.

Independence Day launched the career of Will Smith bringing in around over $800 million worldwide, which would be somewhere around $1.1 billion in today’s dollars.

Independence Day 2 Gets A July 3, 2015 Release

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:6372:]]Fox Studios has announced the release date for Roland Emmerich‘s “Independence Day 2,” and it’s July 3, 2015.

The date is 19 years after the original, which blasted off Will Smith’s acting career.

“ID Forever Part 1,” as the sequel has been called, has been rumored to be set 20 years later with the aliens returning through a worm hole.

It’s been said that Will Smith is not confirmed for the movie, but Bill Pullman will be a part of it, with “Independence Day 2” possibly focusing on Will Smith’s character’s stepson.

A third Independence Day movie is also said to be in the works with “ID Forever Part 2.”

The original Independence Day opened July 3, 1996 raking in over $300 million with a budget of $75 million.
