A new Stranger Things animated series is in the works which is currently untitled and said to be in the vein of those Saturday morning cartoons the Duffer Brothers grew up with as kids.
“We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling,” the pair said in a joint statement.
The details include that The Duffers are executive producing through their Upside Down Pictures production banner that was announced last year to be expanding on Netflix with more Stranger Things, the live-action Death Note, and more. Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen via 21 Laps and Eric Robles via Flying Bark Productions are also executive producing.
“We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with –– the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues…” said The Duffers.
Eric Robles is known for Fanboy and Chum Chum, Glitch Techs, Skunk Fu!, The X’s, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, and more.
“No other series that has ever resonated with me the way Stranger Things has”
“As an 80’s kid there is no other series that has ever resonated with me the way Stranger Things has. A true love letter to everything I grew up watching and loving. My team and I now have the honor, privilege and responsibility to deliver our very best to all the amazing fans of this beloved series,” said Robles on Instagram.
Robles continued, “Special thanks to the Duffer Brothers for their support and guidance. Co Executive Producer Ian Graham (Flying Bark) for being my partner and friend through development and now production. Megan Casey, Dan Evans and Dominique Bazay (Netflix) for not only trusting me, but encouraging me to GO BIG! Jen Muro our awesome Story Editor. Our all knowing Stranger Things consultants Paul Dichter and Curtis Gwinn. And of course none of this would be possible without the amazing collaboration between Netflix, Upside Down Pictures, 21 Laps, Flying Bark Animation and my wonderful and supportive wife, son and family. See you guys on the other side!”
