Star Wars: Rogue One continues its domination as it has now passed a whopping $900 million at the box office.
I just had a conversation about this on Twitter and with a friend, but I wasn't that impressed with the film. Sure, it was fun and entertaining, but honestly it was rather boring until the last half hour, plus they rehashed the "orphan goes searching for an old master" plot from the previous movies (just like Force Awakens did). I also wasn't big on the Death Star being used as I felt it takes away from the Death Star destroying Alderaan in A New Hope. I also didn't like the end with Darth Vader going all nuts on the Rebels as I feel use of The Force (light or dark) should be limited. I don't like when they have the Jedi doing all the theatrics (like in the prequels), which is the equivalent to all the goofy martial arts films with their crazy unrealistic Kung-Fu (think Matrix vs John Wick). Correct me if I'm wrong, but George Lucas based the Jedi lightsabers in part on Samurai and their sword training. True Japanese sword training (and martial arts) isn't about jumping and flying through the air, but Japanese sword training is about instant kill/swipe technique. Less is better, IMO. Guess the fanboys won out on that one. For Star Wars: Rogue One, it just seemed to me they didn't have any ideas for the movie, so (again similar to Force Awakens) they played it safe and stuck with the same old, same old.
I suppose this high of a box office (and for Force Awakens) sends the message to Disney that anything Star Wars they put out will be a success. I just hope they don't get too complacent like they did with these two movies as I would like a bit of a better story (and no R-rated Darth Vader movie — cripes).
