The Avengers: Infinity War officially becomes the #1 movie of all time domestically as it passed Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Infinity War brought in $258.2 million for its opening weekend, which beats The Force Awakens‘ previous domestic three-day record of $247.96 million.
LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy took to social media to offer congratulations to Marvel Studios in the form of an image featuring Rey handing a lightsaber over to Iron Man.
“From a galaxy far, far away… to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes,” the note states. “Congratulations on the biggest opening weekend in history.”
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige also recently thanked fans in a letter posted to social media, and Ryan Reynolds even got in on the fun with an Avengers Deadpool rejection letter.
The Avengers: Infinity War box office also includes the best single day Saturday gross; best Sunday gross; best opening weekend in April; best opening weekend in Spring; best PG-13 opening; widest PG-13 release, and fastest to $150 million, $200 million and $250 million.
Up next for LucasFilm is the Han Solo movie which comes out in about three weeks.
