A new X-Men TV series is underway with Burn Notice's Matt Nix developing the project which will be connected to the larger X-Men movie universe.
While promoting the new FX Legion TV series, producer Lauren Shuler Donner offered up new details about the X-Men TV series in that it will feature the Sentinels, albeit in a form that sounds a lot different than what we've seen before.
"Matt's [X-Men] is much more a part of just the world in terms of there are mutants, mutants are hated and there are Sentinels — though very different from what we've seen before," Donner told IGN, in which she also noted Legion will not be a part of the X-Men movie universe as David Haller's father is not the Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy version.
"You feel like you're here in the X-Men world," Donner explained. "With Legion, we're our own universe. It gives Noah [Hawley] the freedom to do what he wants to do. Because we play with so many different timelines, and we rebooted and not really rebooted and all that, we felt like, OK, we're going to throw it out there and hope the fans accept it."
Regarding Legion, Donner also said, "We're making it separate. We're our own world. Yes, we're in a different world. Exactly."
Donner also revealed the TV series and movies won't crossover.
"The cinematic universe will not worry about Legion. They will not worry about these TV worlds as all," Donner said. "They will just continue in the way that they have been continuing, and there is some great stuff that we are developing. I can just say it's going to be new and different, and yet Legion and our other show, we're not going to get in each other's way."
The X-Men TV series set for Fox is currently awaiting to get green lit; Legion premiers on FX on February 8, 2017.
