A case could be made that the three Marvel movies directed by Joe and Anthony Russo are closer in tone to the Zack Snyder DCEU than any of the other MCU films.
The Russo’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War and especially The Avengers: Infinity War are more in line with the serious take that Zack Snyder took with Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman than Marvel’s regular popcorn joke-filled flicks.
Anthony and Joe Russo recently attended an event in Washington D.C. where they were asked about the possibility of tackling any of the DC properties, and while the pair might seem like a good fit, they don’t have any interest in the DCEU.
The Russo brothers revealed they have always been bigger fans of Marvel over DC, and that they even still have their old Marvel comics from when they were kids.
Joe Russo said he feels the DC characters are unrelatable, and that the characters are too powerful compared to the Marvel characters. The Russos said that having grown up in Cleveland, that they feel more connected to the underdog characters that Marvel represents.
Joe Russo did add that he finds Batman to be the most interesting of the DC Comics characters as Batman’s humanity and fallibility makes him the most fascinating of the Justice League.
Up next for the Russos in the Marvel universe is Avengers 4, which comes out next year and has been said to be bigger and better than Infinity War.
The Avengers: Infinity War is now in theaters.
