No Bendis Guardians For Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Says James Gunn

No Bendis Guardians For Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Says James Gunn

Good news for long time readers of Cosmic Book News and the 2008 Guardians of the Galaxy comic book series comes from Marvel Studios director James Gunn.

James Gunn took to Twitter to reply to a fan question about the possibility of adding the Brian Michael Bendis Guardians of the Galaxy characters into the MCU.

Bendis snagged the Guardians of the Galaxy comic book away from Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning when it was learned Kevin Feige was going with a version of the movie; Bendis was a part of the Marvel Comics Creative Committee that advised on the films.

A fan asked James Gunn, “If given the chance would you ever include Thing, Iron Man, Kitty Pride or Agent Venom to Guardians?”

“As of today, I wouldn’t find adding any of those characters interesting. I really am more of a fan of the Abnett/Lanning stuff as opposed to the stuff that came after the movie or first screenplay,” Gunn replied.

Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning’s Guardians of the Galaxy comic book was the inspiration for the movie as science-fiction writer Nicole Perlman was a fan of the series when she was a part of the Marvel Studios writers group. Perlman wrote up a script based on DnA’s work, and then James Gunn came on board to add his own flavor.

Marvel Comics (not a part of Marvel Studios) cancelled and removed Abnett and Lanning from not only Guardians of the Galaxy, but Nova as well, in addition to a stellar run on Marvel COSMIC.

DnA were the main inspiration for this site, and the reason Cosmic Book News (Marvel COSMIC comic book news) was specifically created was to help promote their titles (you can read along about it in our forums).
